A friend's own children and her sisters children, call their grandparents "mum" and "dad" which I find rather strange !

I always thought Grandma was old - so my kids have a Granny Anne and a Granny Katie. My friends kids have a Granny Bingo ( glad she doesn't spend her time at the pub!), and a Granny Pancake.

Hello! What a lovely thread! Isn't it amazing we all use such different titles for grandparents!

My parents are Ganny and Gandad to all their grandchildren. They're Irish.

My husband's parents are Nana, and Da (this is Welsh I believe, just going back to the earlier question).

    Da's father was Da-Da. Nana's mother is Paw-Paw (Chinese).

Hope there's some good baby news shortly! and you let us know what decision has been made - I bet you're completely confused by now! lol :j

well my little grandson is 20 days old today and I haven`t called myself anything yet. I have tried to silently call myself nanna but my mum was nanna and she was cool, as in cold. I am warm and cuddly and I just cannot get over that psychological hurdle

I think it depends on the people we have known and the association eg gran reminds me of my DHs gran, always with a hat on and making tea from tealeaves in a cold kitchen.

I know that nanna and nanny are associated with goats (tongue in cheek)but I want to be seen as warm and cuddly and to heck with chav language and social class. I may just pick nanny and maybe next time I look after the little one I might just say `nanny will give you a cuddle
  • I'm Granny to my 12 month old grandaughter or Granny Di if my daughter is talking about me,my mum has always been Granny Janet and my mil Granny Hetty. My daughters mil is Nanny. I did ask my daughter what she would like me to be called but she just said whatever I liked.

Whatever you call yourself, being a grandparent is fantastic, there really is nothing like it. Enjoy............

  • When I was little I had grandma and granda at Walker cos thats where they lived.
I had a gran and granda Jack. My granda used to call her Grannyola??? my little brother couldn't say this so she became Shola,
My great gran was called Mother cos Shola used to call to the upstairs flat "Mother, your dinner is ready"
    Everyone following this???
No wonder I grew up confused. Mother's husband was called Old Father!( My great grandfather!
Thank God my parents were Mam and Dad!!!!!
