Before I had my first child I asked my Mum what she wanted to be called. SHe chose Nanna which I had hoped for as I had a Nanna, grandma is too formal, granny too old.
DD calls her other nanna 'granny Dooreen' so putting your name in there is an option too. The boys call MIL and FIL by their first names.
You also have Nanny, nan, grandmama, or make up a random pet name. I knew a child at primary school who called her nanna LaLa, long before the days of the teletubbies:)

My boys have Grandma, Seaside Grandma and Nanna Max.

They chose the names but it does prevent confusion.

My mum is known as Nanny by all four of her grandchildren. Funnily enough my sisters kids call their paternal grandmother Granny and my two call my OH mother Granny as well .

I am a Granny, I wanted to be Gran as I was only 44 when my first Grandchild was born and I thought Granny far too old.
But as my Grandchildren have several Grandparents, i.e real ones, step ones and Great Grandparents it seemed all Gran, Nan, and Nanna had been "used" up. So Granny it is and it is nice when people say " you look too young to be a Granny" when they hear my three beloved Hoolies yell Granny at me when we are out and about!!
Away with the fairies.... Back soon

LOL, I love it when people think I am mother to my eldest grandaughter. Does my ego good.
  • My grandchildren call me Grandma which is what I prefer. Not paid to look after them soI am not a nanny
