HMRC allows a tax free 45p per mile payment to people who use their own car in the course of their job. Often the lowest paid receive a far lower mileage rate and have no way to recoup their loss. The 45p per mile rate should be enforced not optional.0

Actually, I read about it in the Daily Mirror.0 -

The rule that Student Loans are written off if unpaid after 25 years should be backdated to include loans taken out before the 2006/07 academic year.0

Every time you buy something new, there's a high chance that most of your money goes abroad.
When you have something repaired most of the money stays in the UK.
If repairing were given huge financial advantages, (e.g. no business rates on repair premises, no VAT, substantial sources of capital, financial help with employment of staff), then less money would leave the country. As repairing is more labour intensive than selling, it would also create employment.
Result:- more sterling stays in the UK, more jobs, owners of repaired equipment spend less money than if they had to buy new.
With apologies to the redundent salesmen!
My name is Mike Solomons of London Sound - we repair hi-fi and vintage audio - so I do have a vested interest!0 -
Make (fiscally neutral) changes so that extreme marginal tax rate bands (eg 60%) start at higher income levels rather than lower ones eg: start 45% band at £130k rather than £150k and repeal the tapered loss of personal allowance and child benefit to help those not on premiership football wages at the expense of those likely to have a greater capacity to pay.
Currently some of those who earn more are taxed at lower marginal rates than many of those who earn less.

Make broadband and media package providers publish a simple APR like average cost per day metric as part of their advertising to facilitate consumer comparisons.
Cost should include all payments the provider anticipates levying over the minimum term, including line rental and other standing charges, any "free period" and the cost that will apply (which may not be varied by the supplier) for the balance of any minimum term.0 -
In an ideal Britain, Lower-Risk Prison Inmates such as non-violent crimes should be working and completing tasks for local councils such as group rubbish picking, graffiti scrubbing, painting etc.
I'm not talking chain gang, just a job. They should be doing the jobs to make local areas nicer. The tax-payer pays for their food and lodgings. Our prisons are over-subscribed – they should work and give back to the community, inmates then have something to put on their CV when they get out of prison. However even I know the human rights brigade won't allow prisoners to be used as 'free labour' so instead they'll continue to stay confined and not bettering themselves.
Higher Risk Prisoners who don't stand a chance of getting out? Build the most basic prisons for them with no luxuries. I can't stand the thought of paying for prisoners to play playstation and watch TV, I don't get to do those things as a law-abiding, working citizen so why on earth should they? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. If solar panels reduce utility bills as well as being good for the environment they should be fitted to all new homes. This is already the case for water meters. It must be cheaper to install as part of the original build instead of retro fitting.0

There should be tax breaks for people who fall into this category:
- No kids (so no drain on the system for benefits, tax credits, education, medical etc etc etc)
- Have private health care
- Have private dental care
- Funded own education (degree level)
- Include higher rate tax payers
- Never claimed benefits or unemployment
