Whiney whistle noise from car at lower speeds?

I am posting for advice for a friend, who has an '06 Audi A3 2.0 tdi with around 188k miles. There seems to be a whiny/whistly noise which sounds like it's coming from the back end, passenger side. It has happened occasionally and started couple of months ago, generally at lower speeds when the engine is fully warmed up.
I was in the passenger seat, and at first thought the sound was from the car behind but soon realised it was from my friends car. It's quite difficult to describe but its more irritating- like a metal connection in the suspension or brakes that needs lubrication. Although, it could be a turbo whine or whistle? I'm not sure?
Also, please no sarcastic comments about DM, this is a serious question!

possibly a wheel bearing going ?0

Take it to a car park, drive full left lock in circles, then right - and listen, it'll given you an idea of whether a wheel bearing is going.0

Your friend has locked his mother-in-law in the boot but she still won't shut up?Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0

Funny though, that he has a high-mileage sh!tbox of an A3 too.
Ever heard of the boy who cried wolf? Expecting serious help with a real question after all the time you've wasted of people's is a stretch.0 -

Okay, I've taken it to a car park and did the full lock turn in both directions and nothing out of the normal happened.
The whiney/whistle noise didn't happen on my last drive and the engine was pulling strong so I don't think it's the turbo going (thank god). I have on the other hand noticed something odd today whilst driving. When I braked, especially sharp there is an odd sound coming from the rear passenger side. The noise isn't high pitched, it's like something is rubbing against something when I brake. The weird thing is that this didn't happen ALL the time I braked only sometimes. Likewise, the whine/whistle sound doesn't happen always only sometimes.
What could it be?0 -

So it's your car now? Or is your friend Darkmatter101 just letting you drive it a lot?0 -

Maybe you should have considered that before you wasted our time with your pathetic childish lies and silly games in the past.
Personally, I hope nobody helps you any further, DM. Maybe then you'll realise why we don't like your timewasting drivel - some people have real problems to solve.0 -
