38 in a 30
Went past a cop holding a speed gun doing slightly over 30. Got a letter saying they are investigating me doing 38mph in a 30 zone. Because it was a company truck they needed confirmation that it was me driving. What would be the likely outcome, points, fine or road safety course?

Were you joining the "42mph on every road regardless of speed limit" crew for the day? Your speedo at 38 would have been reading 40-42mph

Anyway......... 38 is 3 points and a fine.

38 in a truck will be exactly 38 if its a calibrated tacho. But they usually know a few mph off to allow for error in their equipment, so probably were doing 40.
One of the other drivers got a ticket for doing 54 on an A road where he should have been doing 40 at the time.
He said he was flat out at 56, but the ticket said 54.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Or the offer of a Speed Awareness Course, no points and no fine.0 -
3 points and a well deserved fine. they normally measure at 10% of the total speed freshold, but it depends which constabulary you were in.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I was done for 39 in a 30 in Derbyshire and was offered a speed awareness course (£80 joining fee) no points and no record. Can't be offered it again for a few years so next time we'll be points/fine0

I see the holier than thou brigade are out in force this evening.0

I thought it might have been a course as the letter had to be sent back to road safety and speed awareness centre in Billericay. I might be wrong though0

Indeed, some seem to forget some roads were once a 40 and reduced, that's how some get caught out.I thought it might have been a course as the letter had to be sent back to road safety and speed awareness centre in Billericay. I might be wrong though
A colleague got done in a 30 whilst like you doing 38mph, and was offered a SAC.0 -
Trouble is now when you apply for insurance they ask if you have had a speed awareness course and jack you premium accordingly.Nothing to see here, move along.0

I was clocked doing 36 in a 30, I was slowing down from the 40mph sign but didn't slow dow quick enough as I entered the 30 limit..........
I got a fine and 3 points which, as its the first time I've been caught speeding in 26 yrs of driving so Its no big deal.
The points made no difference to my insurane quotes the following year.0
