Just had my claim rejected by Nationwide and to be bluntly honest I'm unsure why.
I had made an enquiry into PPI with them and they confirmed that I had it on mortgages, credit card and loan so I made a complaint as I had no recollection of any ppi policies. Their findings are....
Cover would not have been added without consent
Eligibility would have been checked
Information would have been provided at the time to allow an informed decision to be made.
Not sure if I should go to ombudsmen as I really can't make head nor tail of things.Outstanding mortgage Dec 2016 £214,500
Current mortgage outstanding May 2017 £211,244 June 2017 £210,446
Offset savings June 2017 £57,354 Balance outstanding May 2017 £154,490 June 2017 £153,0910 -

I can't deny about eligibility - as it was so long ago I do not have documentation but at the time I was working in public sector with very good sickness benefit so not entirely sure why I would have needed the cover. I also had some savings at the time but again this is so long ago. My wife was also working in public sector and continues to do so. They are saying they provided information and eligibility would have been checked but am I taking them at their word for this as they have not provided evidence.Outstanding mortgage Dec 2016 £214,500

Understand that most mortgage PPI complaints are rejected. This PPI is still available today..0 -
Just had my claim rejected by Nationwide and to be bluntly honest I'm unsure why.
Well, lets look at your complaint responses.....Cover would not have been added without consent
This suggests your complaint reasons included an allegation of it being added without consent. They have not found any evidence to support that allegation and its unlikely you gave them any evidence either. So, a rejection on that point sounds rightEligibility would have been checked
Again, the way that is worded suggests you accused them of not checking eligibility. They are saying they did but it really doesnt matter as they check again when you complain and have decided you are eligible. If you are eligible, then your complaint on that part would be rejected.Information would have been provided at the time to allow an informed decision to be made. Not sure if I should go to ombudsmen as I really can't make head nor tail of things.
Two of the complaint reasons are weak and rarely succeed. The other (eligibility) is only an issue if you are not eligible. They say you were. So, looking at all three reasons, there appears to be no reason to consider it a missale.
What evidence do you have to say otherwise?

I appreciate both of your responses.....you are the experts! Stripping it right back I was a customer with Nationwide for a long long time and never at any time was I aware that I had any insurance products on loans or credit cards or for that matter mortgages. I putting it an speculative enquiry and therefore followed up with a claim as never at any time did I recall being spoken to about insurance or being told the benefits of such.
Apologies if I have the wrong end of the stick. I certainly can't prove much as I don't have the documents from that long ago with me agreeing to eligibility, suitability etc.
To summarise I don't think any insurance I had was suitable for either myself or wife at the time.Outstanding mortgage Dec 2016 £214,500

Had great result from using Resolver to claim back over £6000 in PPI from mortgage company and banks. Very impressive. Shame that they dont have anywhere on their own website that you can provded feedback (well not that I could find anyway). Just wish they could help with Endowment mortgage claim.!0

They don't have to provide evidence. The PPI on the credit card would have been visible on every statement with an outstanding balance, and the loan would have been with the agreement paperwork.
It's a claims company myth that it was added without your knowledge, you would have signed ot say you agreed to it or agreed to it over the phone.
The savings and sick pay would have been good complaint reasons for the loan and the credit card, as would single premium for the loan.
Personally, I would refer your complaint to the FOS regarding these two and include the savings.sick pay and single premium for the loan as complaint reasons, and the former two for the credit card.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Thanks. That's the crux I just don't feel it was fit for purpose. I appreciate the response.Outstanding mortgage Dec 2016 £214,500
