In addition to my post, I didn't have any paper work or any evidence, I had changed my name too!
It was all done in 3 letters:

My Letter was Sent on 22/05/17

26/05/17 Letter 1- Confirmation of logging the complaint and request for ID

25/06/17 Letter 2- Update with no details

    06/07/17 Letter 3 - Offer
  • Hi all,
Has anyone been able to claim with HSBC?

I had quite a few loans back in the 90s and 2000s but do not have the paperwork and as I was clueless back then I am sure I payed PPI as well.

Do I stand a chance as I understand HSBC "claim" to only have records back 6 years?

Lots of people have complained to HSBC. They're a big bank.

You'd need to ask them whether they have records of your accounts. But obviously the odds are against you. It's not a question of what they "claim". It's a question of what they "have".
  • I literally got a reply and have the account numbers for 2 loans from 1999 and 2002, however no loan amounts or other details.
Funny how others have said they only keep records back 6 years. AND Gladstone Brookes said they (HSBC) had no record of me, even though I've had the same bank account since 1992 (when they were Midland Bank)

Just as a side note, it is very easy to re-claim PPI yourself and you do not need to go through a 3rd party company. I have done it myself several times and been successful in all cases.

What if I don't know the exact amount on the loan or if I definitely had PPI (which I think they applied by default to the loan payments) ?

You would ask the lender. Just as the same as the claims company will do, but they will charge you bucket loads for doing it.
  • As zx81 says, ask. I have no idea how much 3rd parties charge for this service, but when you can easily do it for free you'd be mad not to.

I recently used your site, and the RESOLVER site to put a claim through to Burtons Store Card

I started the process about 3 weeks ago, and today came back home and found a letter telling me a settlement figure

So the original mail went to NEW DAY who responded immediately advising it needs to go to Santander. I wrote to them, got a response straight away and then today an offer letter.

Full refund of PPI payments was £344.76

With interest and Tax deducted the total offer was an amazing £5378.57 !!!!

    THANK YOU SO MUCH

  • I've had loans most of my working life. About five years ago, I tried to reclaim ppi payments from LloydsTSB but my claim was rejected. Around this time last year, I got a letter out of the blue from Lloyds, saying they were relooking at my claim and included another questionnaire. I completed it and sent it back to them. To my surprise, my claim was this time successful and I received a payment of just over £23,000
