hi we got a mortgage back in 1997 with halifax and was told that the only way we could be accepted for mortgage was to get payment protection plus house insurance with them , now could we go back that far as i thought 6 years was the furthest i could go back..
many thanks , martin lewis to be knighted

Smitchy 73 -thanks so much for your response. I can't work out if they did refund anything to me at the time of early settlement.
I took out consolidated loan of £25,000 for five years on 1st Sept 2006 with first repayment made in Oct 2006. I see from bank statements that I had paid 18 payments of £595.80p a month amounting to £10,724.44. The settlement figure paid on April 3rd 2008 was £20,323.85 pence. The loan rate was 6.3% on £25,000. I was told in 2007 when I called them about the onerous PPI to see if I could stop it that it was front loaded, which meant that I had paid for it, and only later in the life of the loan would I be making real inroads into paying off Capital and interest. Are you good at working out interest against repayments. They certainly did not say they were refunding me anything. In fact I thought they charged an early settlement fee but can't recall.0 -
HEY GUYS - went in the loft last night and found couple of thing inc an old bank statement i had with Capital Bank plc back in 1999. after several calls to capital one as thats who i thought it was with - we both google capital bank and found out it was with HBOS.
Called halifax got through to the PPI team. the guy i spoke to set the claim up over the phone as they already hold a few claims for me, what we both dont know at present is if PPI was on this as its another team that deal with capital bank ppi/queries.
Anyway he was very and i mean VERY surprised when i told him the loan was for £2k over 36months paying £108.44 per month this worked out to me paying them back approx £3900. As we are both not sure re ppi from that figure do you think this was on it or could it all just be interest.
and if it was interest approx what rate was this. (ive prev posted no inputs) - thanks guys

Hi All.
Just a quick one.The lovely people at LLoyds have just turned down 3 loan PPI claims in one nice letter.I have been self employed for 20 years nearly and never had a chance on claiming if needed
Is it worth going back to LLoyds or straight to the FOS.
What You all think,or maybe email the boss ? anyone got his email

Hi Mark (arferdaly). I am no expert as you can tell from my posts, but it seems to me pretty clear that you could not claim on your PPI if you had lost work as you were self employed, and that Lloyds are ultimately on a hiding to nothing. They could be wanting to string it out for as long as possible and ensure you have to go to FOS. Do both-email the boss and refer to FOS on the standard claim form. I presume you used the agreed claim form downloaded from this brilliant site?0 -

I hope someone has responded to you Nicky who knows more than I do. I had heard that online PPI claims were slightly more difficult than telephone PPI-becuase there was no human intermediary. Do you recall if the MBNA website had any explanation about PPI and checklist of your eligibility?0

From those figures I'd say you must have had PPI in there as otherwise that loan equates to an APR of about 50.2% !Its amazing how these banks can't even do simple calculations correctly..............0 -
