Did you actually check that the refund was put on the card?,if it was then i dont understand this at all.

Unless they have reduced your credit limit?,this is possible as a lot of cards have had the limits reduced across the board not just those who have claims upheld.

If they have reduced your limit the letter to inform you of this may have crossed in the post after you used the card.

To save you a phonecall, have you registered the card with the online system? this will show you everything to do with your card.

Let us know how you get on.

    Hiya, thanks for your response,

Called Halifax today to be told this:

As it was a credit card ppi reclaim its dealt with slightly differently, Basically they paid the £621 back onto my card and then decided this was not the best way as all it was doing was lowering my credit when in actual fact they HAVE to give me the money back to do with as i wish.
So on sat i had plentiful credit after they had put the money back in, i spent lets say £60. Then they reversed the payment and with the money i had spent it put me over my credit limit so they blocked it!!
I asked if they could unblock it and they said not until i paid the £ 36.00 i had gone over to clear it!!

He said they had sent me a cheque 2 days ago, i explained that i had spoken to the lady only a few days previous and she mentioned nothing about this and also when i received the letter about getting the money back it clearly stated it would be a bank transfer onto my card!!

I explained that i hadn't knowingly done this so surely this shouldnt stand. They said nothing they can do and when i pay the money it will then take 3 days to then clear it
He then told me it would incurr a £12 cost but i was soon to tell him he could not bother with that!!!!:rotfl:

He then asked me about 10 times if he was happy with the way he had handled the call and apologies for the inconvenience this had caused me about 50 times:rotfl:

As i think you calculated last time my figure was possibly underpaid i shall put this in writing about what has happened and to ask for some more money lol

Hi all, first time poster! I have two PPI claims with lloyds at the moment, one for a loan and one for a credit card. Anyway going through old paperwork the other day found a letter from Alliance and Leicester for a loan from 2003/04 which said I had an insurance premium on it. So, got the number from this fabulous site, gave them a ring (found out through MSE its santander) on this wed 27/7/11. Got home after work tonight and theres a letter arrived from santander offering me £1332.31!!!:):) quick or what?!?!

    The breakdown of redress is:-

A total monthly premiums paid until 20 Feb 08 £927.36
    B statutory interest on (a) until 31 July 11 £404.95
    Total refund (a + b) £1332.31

It does say on the letter interest payment has been paid gross and is potentially taxable, do i have to inform the inland revenue?

I agree. Far too tempting with the money waiting, wanting and nagging to be spent. Ripped up all mine start of 2009, went for a dmp, and live off a weekly budget. Hats off to people who have the will power not to spend the limits.

Things will happen soon I am sure for you and if their are hiccups along the way then at least this site and members will support you. What I have found shocking, but not surprising are the amount of errors being made by the banks, the wooliness of the FOS redress advice and the lack of service from the banks. As for you unregulated loan we just pick out the best example of a case study that we can find and tell them to pay. I am sure that I could put up some nice figs for you if your not happy with how they calculate the refund on this.

Seeing I am on a roll I am currently looking at the CC redress, the word fluffy comes to mind. I think that the fos might have got this a little wrong. I am coming around to the idea that at any point a ppi payment was charged then the full apr should be paid.

Got carried away there a bit:o.

I am off to look at the credit card situation, should be getting some real life data to look at soon. Life doesnt get any more exciting.

I totally agree that the full APR that is applicable to CC should be refunded together with the 8% simple interest.

My debts stem back to when I got divorced.

I was left with 2 kids and the loss of a household income of £18,000, so I accrued debts in the interim period that it took to sell the family home and then pay the legal fees to get divorced.

I have a pretty good financial mind (dying to tell you all what I do for a living), so I have cleared a great deal of it.

Actually, after this claim, all I should be left with is the mortgage and that loan.

I also have some complaints handling experience ;)

So my redress will be completed correctly, I shall make sure of that :D

I received a cheque today from MBNA for £2949. Yipee! And it's my birthdaytoo. Great present.
Original credit card was Alliance and Leicester, and I had no paperwork. I filled out the form and sent it off in late April, expecting to have it rejected as many of the boxes were "don't know" and "can't remember". I have had a couple of letters apologising for the delay, and now this. I would not have known how to go about this without your detailed guidelines. All it cost me was the price of a stamp. THANK YOU MSE.

So happy for you, some good news at last, Happy Birthday and have a great weekend:rotfl::beer:
  • Hi all,

I've been a watcher for ages but this is my first post and I need a little advice in regard to HSBC (both loan and CC ppi)

My partner took out a big loan in 2003 and was mis-sold ppi to the total amount of £5796.78! Loan was paid off Oct 2010.

He also took out a CC in Dec 2004 and again was mis sold PPI.

He has both agreements and most of the associated paperwork and statements so after the JR we decided to complete the questionnaire and complain. This was on 17th May.

I focused most of the complaint in regard to the loan PPI and just put a little at the bottom about the CC ppi.

So today, unexpectedly (I wasn't expecting to receive a reply until end of Aug) he received a letter in repsect of the CC PPI.

To quote a few lines they have said

"While I do not agree with your concerns and will not be upholding your complaint, I am conscious that the premiums you have paid total £124.52. I am prepared to offer £130 as a gesture of goodwill, as I'm offering to refund the premiums it is not my intention to respond specifically to the individual issues raised. Please note this letter represents our full response, if you remain dissatisfied you have the right to refer to FOS"

Our first thought was yey a bit of success. But on working it out they have for some unknown reason neglected to pay ALL the premiums back since Dec 2004. They are only going from Aug 2005 which by rough calculation means he's missing about £80.

Is this the typical wording of ALL letters sent out for successes? They have cleverly tried to make it sound so final and also not admitting fault but at the same time if they are not upholding the complaint why on earth are they paying the premiums back!!

I'm thinking of sending another letter direct to the person dealing stating this is unacceptable and that we exepct premiums dated back to the first payment and maybe even send a photocopy of the agreement and statements we have.

Does anyone think this is the correct course of action or have I no option but to go to the ombudsman.

    I wish.

Something tells me that Martin doesn't have Credit Cards or Loans, nor does he currently have claims in with HBOS for PPI lol.

I'll tell you when I have had my claim upheld.

I fear it has now been built up too much and you will be disappointed :rotfl:

    That is extremely quick.

And yes, you are required to inform the revenue and if you are a basic rate taxpayer, you will need to pay 20% tax on the refund of the 8% interest only.
