What were you reclaiming: Loan PPI
Who was the provider: Northern Rock
How much did you get back: £3400
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: 1st Letter and FOS Questionaire

Took around 6 weeks. Previously got £2200 back from A & L. Not bad for £2.30 worth of stamps!!!

Advice: Keep heart and keep going. Fortune favours the brave.

How much did you get back: £1155
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: FOS Questionnaire

Sent FOS Questionnaire (13/9), a week later (21/9) they called me to say the complaint would be upheld and that they would calculate the refund , recieved cheque on 27th September 2010. ))

Your doing the right thing here.
They will mention about the FOS, as you have rights to do this now, but they MUST enclose the leaflet details of the FOS in the final decision.
Keep at them and fingers crossed X;)

I have re read the letter & notice that they do mention that it is their final response(There was an FOS leaflet in the envelope - binned it as I thought they got put in as a matter of course)

I have written a reply but am not now sure whether it is worth sending or I should just go straight to FOS?

Hiya

Well its up to you, some have actually overturned a final decision, but what you could do is give them 14 days after they receive your letter and if you hear nothing - then complain to the FOS.;)
