Can anybody help. We re-morgaged three years ago and were told at the time by our financial advisor that ppi was compulsory. My husband and I are both self employed and were at the time. My husband also suffers from a blood condition controled for life with tablets. I wrote to the insurance company, using Martins first letter, who then corresponded directly with the financial advisor who sent a letter saying they were going to investigate themselves. They have written back to me, saying as the policy was arranged prior to the regulation of insurance products and threfore falls outside the Financial Services Authority and Fiancial Ombudsman Service jurisdiction. They also say that we were asked if we had been to the doctor in the last 12 months and we had said no. We certainly were not asked that question and the fact my husband is on medication for the whole of his life, we certainly would not have responded with a no.

    Thanks in anticipation :D

When actually was it negotiated and what was the company?? Ive seen some companies stating thats when blatently they are lying as a fob off.

Thank you so much for your reply Pixie.

Policy was taken out nearly three years ago with Payment Shield. I have cancelled the premiums which were 50 quid per months. We were definitely told the ppi was compulsory.

According to the FSA they (payment shield) became regulated by them on 14th Jan 2005. If you purchased insurance after that then they are telling porkie pies ;)

    Hi everyone,

Tried to reclaim PPI from EGG Credit Card total amount £643 but usual fob off letters from them so sent it off to FOS back in December 07.
I applied for the credit card online back in 2004.
This morning have had reply from FOS to say that they stand by EGG because I ticked the PPI button online for the PPI and I therefore knew about it. Although I state that I think the website is misleading. They say that the online button for PPI is not defaulted onto automatically coming up with a tick and therefore they believe that EGG have not done anything wrong.

So if you are trying to claim on the above as I did - WARNING - the FOS are standing by EGG so I would say don't even bother.

Am disappointed as I have asked them to cancel PPI back in November and still getting charged with constant arguments over it every month when the online statement comes in!

Also think that the FOS are extremely slow. I have had better results on other PPI claims by going straight to court, with majority of the complaints being settled before gogin all the way to court date! And have been successful in claiming back over £5k in PPI from several organisations on PPI and credit card charges.

I have no faith that the FOS can handle the current high volume of claims and I would highly recommend going straight to court in future. More expensive but quicker and in my case it has proved successful.

If anyone out there has had a success with EGG credit card online PPI application then please let me know what and how you approached them!

Am filing this one (the first may I add!) in the NOT WON BIN!!

Thanks and don't give up folks! They all owe us money!

Oh No,thats awful news, our claim for ppi is with FOS since jan so l'll expect the big fat NO soon shall l?. Whats the matter with these people if we're all complaining something must be wrong, nobody would moan if the large payments were explained properly i.e. if they told us that on a balance of say £2000 the payments would be say £45ish we'd all say "!!!!!! off no thanks we wont have that"! but they dont they con us into it and then dont like us realising we've been ripped off.
Cant you add up the payments yourself from the on line statements and then take them to court for extortion?! l think we might.

  • Hi,
Am new to posting on this site but have been a fan for sometime. In 2004 we (DH & myself) took out a secured loan with the now infamous First Plus! We too like so many were mis-sold a single premium policy of a whopping £14571.55:mad: . In 2005 we remortgaged and were shocked by the ridiculously high redemption figure ,as it was never made clear to us at any point that the ppi effectively secured a further debt against our home because of the way it was front loaded onto our loan. Inspired by this website we contacted First plus at the beginning of march this year regarding the mis-selling on a number of counts. Like so many others we got the first response that said go away. Their second response which we received yesterday was the standard 78% enhanced rebate rubbish as a gesture of goodwill:rolleyes: . They offered us £3093.77 which would be taken off the loan and our monthly payments will be reduced by a few pounds. They really are quite incredible. We are 43 months into this loan.I rang our "Complaints Executive" who ran through this with me. She said it was their full and final response yet admitted she hadn't heard the taped call as they couldn't find it!!! I feel so strongly that they are not being fair so need to ask for some advice as to what to do next. Are there any more avenues to explore before we contact the FOS?

Complete a SAR and find out if they have access to the origional telephone conversations or not, if not that should hopefully put you in a stronger position to reclaim back all the money.

I have also recieved an offer of enhanced rebate which I have rejected, I believe they would offer nothing unless they had to so this offer is admitting fault, banks dont do "goodwill" so I am going after the full amount. In my mind it is morally wrong for such large companies to be allowed by the FOS to carry on with this practice of front loading PPI, I found out I could have got the same cover from Antinsurace for less than £6 a month!! but as the bank pay the FOS wages I guess its the same old story of big fat cats getting fatter off the back of men and women that work 40+ hours a week trying to feed their family.
