what details do i need to send to my bank for trying to reclaim my ppi? and do i send it to the branch or head office?
  • I too have just received what sounds like the same letter!

I agree with the letter that i applied on-line albeit back in 2002 well before they had been fined. I will be strongly disagreeing that i ever received any further information let alone signed any documentation with regards to ppi. The only document i ever signed was that of the Credit Agreement. I am going to write back with the 2nd template mentioning these facts and that unless they can send me copies of the mentioned paperwork in relation to ppi with my signature other than that of the credit agreement then i will forward my complaint to the FOS.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Anyone succeeded following a similar letter sent by Capital One? How did you succeed?

What are peoples thoughts on my approach is it the right one?

I've just had a letter back from Capital One saying that I wasn't one of the people mis sold ppi and that I asked for ppi to be added when I applied over the Internet.

It goes on to say that they wrote to me to tell me it was optional and I ticked and signed the letter back to say I wanted it.

Looks like I won't be getting anything back here.

They do say that I had a 30 cooling off period where I could cancel the ppi free of charge, they also say that I can cancel the ppi policy at any time by ringing the number on the letter.

Any idea how much they will charge me to cancel the ppi?
  • Hi,

We have recently received a letter from the Bank Of Scotland admitting that they mis sold the PPI when the loan was taken out a year ago. They have said that they will refund in full and with added interest. GREAT! or so I thought, they have now said that as they are in the middle of re-writing their procedures, so they don't know when we will get our money back, or even how much it will be. Also, they have stated that we may not get anything back, and the amount of refund will be deducted straight from the amount of the loan outstanding, (which is not what we need at the moment). And to cap it off, they have requested that we keep paying the full monthly instalments (PPI inclusive) until they can deal with our claim! This cant be right can it???

Yeah I got pretty much the same letter. When I asked for the details with my agreement they at first said they wouldn't give it to me then when I 'pressed' them all of a sudden they couldn't find the documents. Still refused to discuss it further though so I have sent the details to the FO to see if they can get any further forward.

    Hi Everyone

I had two loans within a short space of time with First Plus and ended up paying over £7,000 in PPI. They offered me refinance after six months which I stupidly took up and they said they had to cancel the first lot of PPI and I would have to start a new one.

On both occasions their representatives asked me if I had death in service with my employers (where my estate would get paid a year's salary if I died whilst I was working there) and I said that I did have this. At this point their rep stumbled a bit but carried on with the hard sell.

Anyway I sent off the first template letter claiming that I was pushed into buying the policy, and claiming part refund and they came back with a big fat "NO" but they would keep my complaint open for 8 weeks.

Does anyone here think I have a case in that they should not have sold me the policy which included Life Insurance as I didn't need the life insurance because, as I already told them, I had death in service? Shouldn't they have sold me a different kind of policy which only included unemployment and sickness? That being the case, wasn't the PPI totally missold?

    I would appreciate anyone's comments.

    Thanks

    Anne

    Hi

Would appreciate some advice - have looked through a lot of the threads but can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

Took out a large secured loan 5 years ago (5 years this June) over a 15 year period. Was told had to take out PPI to get the loan, wasn't told it was only for 5 years, it was all done over the telephone and they ticked all the boxes and insisted I get the documents back to them within 24 hours as the 'special rate offer' was due to expire.

Was made redundant Christmas 2007 and so had to claim - this is when I found out that I would only get 12 months worth of payment cover. My insurers have made 3 payments, and I have now received a letter telling me that my policy expires in June and so my payments will cease then also!!

I've rang the company and have been given the standard 'not our fault, you should have read your policy documents and as we wern't registered at the time....yada yada yada. I'm going to get my papers together and write to them again - but I have a claim on the policy. So, my question is this...if I reimburse them the 3 payments they have made can I then claim back my PPI in full as though there is no claim? My premiums (full up front policy added to the overall total of the loan) amount to £12,221, this amont of money would help me more than the insurers paying my loan payaments for 12 months - this is also another bone of contention as I was never told it would only cover 12 months of loan payments either.

    Thanks

    Lorraine

PS: have successfully recovered over £3k from my bank/credit cards thanks to Martin and his site - what a champion!!

We are dealing with first plus and they are very hard to deal with.
ask for phone calls concerning the initial sale where you stated to the sales person you were already covered.
Have you sent a SAR?I am sending you a PM with some info.

    Hi everyone,

Tried to reclaim PPI from EGG Credit Card total amount £643 but usual fob off letters from them so sent it off to FOS back in December 07.
I applied for the credit card online back in 2004.
This morning have had reply from FOS to say that they stand by EGG because I ticked the PPI button online for the PPI and I therefore knew about it. Although I state that I think the website is misleading. They say that the online button for PPI is not defaulted onto automatically coming up with a tick and therefore they believe that EGG have not done anything wrong.

So if you are trying to claim on the above as I did - WARNING - the FOS are standing by EGG so I would say don't even bother.

Am disappointed as I have asked them to cancel PPI back in November and still getting charged with constant arguments over it every month when the online statement comes in!

Also think that the FOS are extremely slow. I have had better results on other PPI claims by going straight to court, with majority of the complaints being settled before gogin all the way to court date! And have been successful in claiming back over £5k in PPI from several organisations on PPI and credit card charges.

I have no faith that the FOS can handle the current high volume of claims and I would highly recommend going straight to court in future. More expensive but quicker and in my case it has proved successful.

If anyone out there has had a success with EGG credit card online PPI application then please let me know what and how you approached them!

Am filing this one (the first may I add!) in the NOT WON BIN!!

Thanks and don't give up folks! They all owe us money!

Can anybody help. We re-morgaged three years ago and were told at the time by our financial advisor that ppi was compulsory. My husband and I are both self employed and were at the time. My husband also suffers from a blood condition controled for life with tablets. I wrote to the insurance company, using Martins first letter, who then corresponded directly with the financial advisor who sent a letter saying they were going to investigate themselves. They have written back to me, saying as the policy was arranged prior to the regulation of insurance products and threfore falls outside the Financial Services Authority and Fiancial Ombudsman Service jurisdiction. They also say that we were asked if we had been to the doctor in the last 12 months and we had said no. We certainly were not asked that question and the fact my husband is on medication for the whole of his life, we certainly would not have responded with a no.

    Thanks in anticipation :D
