The welcome loans, it would be interesting to know if they were car or personal loans. Wecome did some peculiar things back in 2003 which they are currently being challenged on.

My Welcome loans are all Personal (unsecured) - but were 2007. The PPI was just added and I assumed it was part of the loan. However even now when I am asking how they calculated the settlement figures on the loans - I am told they don't know how the figure is made up, but if I was due an PPI refund it would have been taken into account and included.

On phoning the PPI administrators direct they say both policies were cancelled and refunds were sent to Welcome head office, but they couldn't say how much the refunds were for?

I don't know what to do? If they were upfront and could show me figures I wouldn't be so suspicious, but now I am thinking they have something to hide? I could be wrong.......

Got letter today basically saying the same as most others...offering 78% rebate..total 5,500 to take off loan.Don't want it taken off loan .am writing to ask them to send a cheque ,not that i hold out for much hope.

Be warned they might do it anyway! I haven't accepted anything, signed anything yet I've had a letter telling me the money has been deducted from my loan! Unreal!

    Hi Guys,

Just a quick word of encouragement to you all chasing the delightful welcome

I have been in contact with these for about 6 months now regarding my Car finance. There was no question this was mis sold to me but they dug in there heels and told me to prove it.
Basically after all these months i have just received a letter from them saying they do not agree with my "assertions " but as a gesture of goodwill have decided to refund the full PPI plus associated interest !
But here's the crunch, they have paid it of the account
They have not adjusted the weekly payments or the amount of repayments. So i am just about to write back and ask for it as a cheque. Don't have much hope but its gotta be worth a try.
Keep on at them guys, don't let them away with it.
    Good luck x
    Will keep you informed.

Thanks for the Welcome encouragement!!! On what grounds was your PPI mis-sold? (if you don't mind me asking). When we took our car finance through them they included PPI - but by then I was more savvy and asked for a quote without it - I was told no PPI then no Loan - I argued with them - eventually received new loan agreement but with much higher APR. Once again I dug my heals in and refused to sign. Eventually got it all done correctly and saved us about £35/month over 4 years (quite a big chunk really).

when I rang the FSA i was told you are entitled to contest that
    its your money!!!
they have also said they would do that to me ive not accepted it!! i had confirmation from the ombudsman today they have recieved my complaint
wonder if first plus have also? i sent a copy anyway maybe they thought i was bluffing
keep smiling and juliedawn dig your heels in your entitled to the money how the rebate is paid should be your choice they should not be allowed to just credit your loan account its easier for them obviously they just ammend figures without having to pay out

  • hI EVERYONE

i am in the process of trying to reclaim my ppi charges from a bank and i wrote to cancel the policy in december, however they still took the payments in dec, jan, so rang again only to be told it takes 3 months to cancel!
they also told me they have no procedures in place for customers reclaiming!
    am i being fobbed off??
i thought it was going to be quite simple! wrong!

i wonder if i should take my complaint to the ombudsman? what do you guys think? anyone else come across this?
    Cheers:confused:
  • What next? I took out a professional Studies Loan with LLoyds TSB back in 1997. The loan was repayed in full in about 2005. I took out payment protection at the same time as the loan. At the time I assumed it would cover the full term of the loan but this website suggests that it may only have lasted for 5 years. Even if that worst case scenario were true then my policy would have ended 5 and a half years ago. I have written to Lloyds TSB and they are unable to find the Terms and Conditions relating to my policy. Apparently they sold this aspect of their business some time ago. I therefore cannot prove that I was missold the policy (I am sure it contained an unemployment clause). Does anybody know if I can now claim "by default?" The website says that the banks should keep records for 6years after the policy ends. Is this a statutory requirement? Im not really sure what my next step should be so any ideas would be most appreciated.
