Hi, My 12 year old son is travelling to Italy with school for week and I'm considering which is the safest way for him to pay whilst there. He is allowed to take cash but there's always a risk of loosing it and being left with no funds. He has a high street bank debit card which has high fees for use abroad. The Post office travel card states the card holder needs to be over 18. I have a Halifax Clarity Mastercard which I use abroad because there's no fees. I was thinking about letting him take the credit card ( he's a sensible boy and I have the app to check on spending ), any advice please? Thanks : )

Starling Kite account should do the job.

Not a good idea - it's against the Ts&Cs for starters.

I am travelling to Uzbekistan in September. I have read loads of info about travel cards but now my brain is overloaded. I still do not know what's best for me. I don't know how welcome the SOM is in the country. A friend has told me dollars are preferred but she visited a very long time ago. I feel I need a card I can use freely without running up loads of charges and I may want to use cash.
    Any suggestions

I went to Uzbekistan in 2018, so things may have changed since. However, when I visited, practically nowhere accepted cards and I saw very few ATMs. I took cash (US dollars) and exchanged them at bureau de change. The bureau de change only accepted USD and euros, so don't bother taking GBP. I would recommend using the following to find the best place to get USD: https://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/?_gl=1*cn05mq*FPAU*NTQ5MjkwMTYxLjE3MjI4NzM5OTU.*_ga*MzAxMzUwODQ0LjE3MDczMjA1MDY.*_ga_X74CWQS9F0*MTcyMzY0ODk0Ny4zOTYuMS4xNzIzNjUzMzIxLjAuMC4xMjM1NDY5MjQy

Use the tripadvisor forums for something so destination specific, search the forum and ask if existing threads are no help. Google "tripadvisor uzbekistan forum"

Never been to Uzbekistan but my experience is that anywhere outside the "western" world then US dollars are your best bet then only change small amounts into the local currency at a time if needed.  You don't want to get stuck with a pile of foreign currency that you can't use or would get a terrible exchange rate to change back.

A credit card is always useful for flights/hotels but I would be relying on US dollars in an emergency. In a sticky situation a crisp $100 bill is going to be more use than a Visa or Mastercard.
