It's been a couple of days now. Have you checked what rates you actually got?

No. I cannot do that, as I cannot log on to my account. According to the Nationwide website, the rate is the full Visa one, though.

Just had a response from the MSE team re the TMM app.

It is not compatible with upgrades, so no longer being maintained. That will be why you could not get it, eDicky.

I should have bought that Ralph Lauren bag!

  • The travel credit cards page says that the Barclaycard Platinum travel card is not available to existing Barclaycard customers. I can't see anything on their site which says that, and I successfully applied despite having another Barclaycard already.

The site does say "Card best suited for new customers who:" but that doesn't look like it's a restriction. I couldn't see anything in the T&Cs about new customers only.

I did too - a few months ago.
  • Tandem was been working really well for me (added advantage is that you can say it is a US card for places like airbnb that try to add currency conversion fees to your local currency as they don't reject zip codes of 00000)

i had just logged in to ask about the Tandem card. Got it a couple of days ago and made a purchase abroad yest and it worked like a charm. The app that tells you immediately how much the cost is is great too.

Hey chaps - which would you choose out of Halifax/Tandem/Barclaycard

I plan to withdraw some cash but use majority on card
Would like to use with Apple Pay (not essential, Tandem don't offer)
Best rate trumps cash withdrawal personally. I'm happy to pay off cash withdrawals ASAP

    Thanks
  • In reply to jamerr. Halifax Clarity. When I applied for Barclaycard they made me jump through hoops and then gave me a £500 limit, useless. On the other hand, Halifax, easy peasy, and useful limit.

Looking to get a travel credit card as I'm going to be abroad for 2-3 months this summer in several countries, and would like some advice for my particular situation if anyone can advise.

I don't have much credit history as I'm in my early 20s and have recently moved back to the UK after 5 years away. I'm worried that 2 hard credit searches in the past two months (I switched current account and got an Amex charge card, both per MSE recs), coupled with my thin file, will lessen my chances of getting a good travel credit card before I begin travelling in six weeks. I have a Revolut prepaid Visa, so not a disaster if I can't get one in time, but would like a backup Mastercard given capricious card machines and ATMs where I'm going.

I am VERY anxious to avoid being declined credit. ClearScore gives me 'on good ground' and Experian puts me at the very top end of 'good', but I checked my eligibility for Creation and they told me I was ineligible. I'm told I don't have much of a shot with MSE's Barclay or Halifax recs. Would be grateful if people could share their thoughts on the below alternatives I've found from checking my eligibility on different sites:

    - Tandem (can't seem to find any eligibility info, but probably my preferred option right now)
    - B Credit (60-70%)
    - Aqua Advance (80%)
    - Virgin Travel Credit (95-100%).

I'd very much like the option of cash withdrawal in case. I also want a card with a good app (and the ability to pay off immediately over the app), as I won't have my computer with me all the time and want to be able to keep track easily and pay off any cash transactions ASAP if necessary. Virgin, very irritatingly, don't have an app. Have read Tandem's had some issues but recent customers above seem very happy?

    Grateful for any input! Thanks.
