I see they now actively show that they use Three 4G and 3G. ISTR that this was anonymous when they launched.

Has call quality improved since the launch?

Just put my card into a phone to check, still shows as FreedomPop for me.

I tried to downgrade and got a !!!!-and-bull message that because they needed credit of at least £2 to take care of any data charges, they would charge my card account with £10. And they did.

I couldn't find any mention of such a charge online so regard the charge as unmerited. Not sure whether to take this up with the credit card company.

It charges a top-up in case someone exceeds the data bundle size, so as not to cut them off.

Go in the account settings and disable automatic top-up.

Ring up FreedomPop, probably have this explained to you, and they will refund.
  • Hi all, I am thinking of joining the 21st century and getting a smart phone! Only really want to text and talk so usage will be low. Can anyone tell me about Freedom Pop? Is it really free at the basic level? I believe it uses the EE network, so any thoughts on that? Does it do what it says?

All views gratefully received. Thank you.

It’s free at the basic plan, and uses Three, not EE.

It needs a smartphone to work, and can be temperamental at times. I have seen delayed texts and is sometimes unobtainable even with good signal. Having said that, on my last test using the sim in an iPhone rather than Android phone it was far better behaved (either an improvement in service or the iOS app works better).

Can you not email them instead? I can't find any link to do this when I log in.
