Hi guys,
The Carphone Warehouse ID sim only deal sounds good but the "use it overseas as you would at home"part of the offering isn't quite as good as I hoped it would be.
Like my current deal with 3 it allows you to use your monthly allocation of minutes/texts.data in umpteen overseas countries BUT, and this isn't highlighted anywhere obvious, you can only use this facility for a maximum of 90 days per annum. I'd already signed up with 3 before finding a minute reference to this 90 day maximum on the website - even though I did explain on about three separate occasions to staff instore that I would be travelling overseas for about 5 months of the year. The shop staff failed to mention the restriction at any time.
The 3 shop staff also failed to explain to that, at the time that I signed up, their "Feel at Home" service wasn't available in Spain and the Canary Islands even though I had just told them that in about 4 weeks time I was going to the Canaries for 4 weeks holiday.
When I contacted 3 to complain about these "failures to inform" they credited me with a month's payment.
When I first heard about the Carphone Warehouse ID sim I contacted them to inquire if they were imposing the same 90 day limit - and unfortunately they replied that they too had to apply the limit so I see no reason to switch to id from 3 for the time being.
I was thinking of moving to ID but have changed my mind. I couldn't find anywhere on their website about the 90 day limit and chatted with an ID rep on their website who told me their were no restrictions other than your inclusive minutes and data. WHY DO THE MOBILE COMPANIES LIE TO SUCK YOU IN THEN LOCK YOU INTO A USELESS CONTRACT?0 -
I chatted with an ID rep and they lied to me. They said there were no restrictions on using the ID SIM in the USA other than your inclusive minutes/text/data. It transpires they have the same '2 month rule' as 3 have. I am SO GLAD I didn't sign up to ID SIM for 12 months.0

ID Mobiles 2 month takeaway limit:
10.2.3 TakeAway Plan is only available to UK residents on holiday or business trips abroad. You must use make a call, send a SMS or use data once every 30 days to maintain use of your TakeAway Plan. If you use your entire inclusive allowance whilst roaming in any 2 months within a 12 month period, it may affect your roaming services and prevent you from using roaming in the future.
- I read that in the sense I would need to use all 10 gb of data, every minute and all the texts in 2 months whilst abroad. A holiday doesn't have a defined length. As far as I'm concerned just make sure you stay under your data limit, if only by a little and you'll be within the rules of the contract. Also is specifies 'may' affect your roaming services; just don't take the mickey and I'm sure you'll be alright.0 -
Hi folkes first post and sadly first time with ID mobile.
Took this out in May from a Carphone Warehouse shop. I told him I would be travelling in Europe for 6 months and he recommended the Takeaway plan. From the outset it was problematic.
It took ages to activate my number. Then the agreement was for 15 a month, I was by now in Germany and had a bill in my 2nd month of £19 and I hadn't used my phone. I then tried to use internet it didn't work and I had asked for activation before I left the Carphone warehouse shop. A month later still no Internet abroad. Over 15 calls to the 7777 I have been fobbed off, told theres a limit, told I would have to pay 140 cancellation fee, even though they admitted told me they had never activated the internet. In short now going through the CAB letter cancelling DD and forgetting them. A terrible company in my opinion. Oh another thing you cant down load any of the apps once you are in another country.:eek:0 -
Then your external credit files are wrecked for the next 6 years. Good old CAB giving great advice as usual.0

So I've been travelling around Europe with my ID mobile sim these past few weeks.
At first I couldn't roam with data, but I checked my apn settings and they were set to three (which was my old provider). I guess these work in the UK but didn't abroad, plus using the phone option to reset them just set them to three. All you have to do is create a new APN called iD with the apn server bit id
Now everthing has worked fine. Speeds are good for browsing, I haven't streamed as I think that takes the mickey a bit, and I want to try and give them no reason to cut me off after roaming permanetly over 2 months.
So far been fine in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Poland.
Also billing is fine, all roaming that should be free is billed as such.0
