MSE News: Carphone Warehouse launches mobile network. But is iD any good?

Having read all the doom and gloom about ID, but still determined to get myself a deal, I read all the Terms & Cond on the ID site. OK, so now I know the rules what's the big deal - everything is stated very clearly on their website, ie can't port numbers from one ID a/c to another (fine if I know in advance), you can cap your monthly spend if you buy a capped plan, the 'going over' charges are clearly stated for those not on a capped plan.
And so, I bought a capped monthly plan £4 per month (you can't always see that cheap plan and I only got to it by clicking thru MSE then going to their shockproof plans - the capped ones). My thinking was, if it goes wrong I'm only with them for a month. I sure wouldn't sign up to an 'unknown' supplier for 12 or even 24 months without trying them out first.
My number ported within 24hrs, I was online and everything worked fine - I was surprised because all the negative comments had me worried. I've been with them for 2months now and no probs so far. My account on their website if fab - has everything I need on the dashboard. I can see all my usage, which is updated every minute, change my cap any time I want and port my number out if I want to leave any time, all without speaking to a soul.
My advice to anyone looking to go with them.... read all the terms and conditions - if you don't then you only have yourself to blame. And manage your own account, don't phone them up and expect them to change your cap amount or similar, do it yourself so you know it's been done.
I nearly got talked out of going with ID by a 'friend' who was concerned that ID were too much of risk. Glad I joined them.
To be honest, the £4 deal is perfect for those who only make calls and texts, and I'd really recommend it for the older parents.0 -
For me the no tethering rule is a show stopper0

Do not go near ID mobile
Long story short I got an iphone for my 14 year old daughter in ocotber, she went over her usage the first month (typically teen) and I got a bill for £85, anyway I didn't know about the different shockproof deals, so they said they would put a £5 cap on for me, that didn't happen, they said that this cant happen after 28 calls later with promises of calls to me but nothing they said that whoever agreed this was wrong and "the recorded call" couldn't be heard proper, I wrote a deadlock letter with no answers given to me and now since 28th Nov there is a weekly charge on the account for £4.50 and the phone bill says its a charge to my own number!!
They told me to ring a company called phone pay plus, who said that they were getting loads of customer saying that they were having calls from ID mobile customer s stating that they were getting charges from phone pay plus when its nothing to do with them, so £85 extra usages and now £46.50 weekly charge son the bill.
I am not paying this bill, id rather go to court!!
I have logged an official complaint to the ombudsman today id love to hand the phone back and cancel the whole thing if I could!!
Hi,
I'm really sorry to hear about this. Please contact our team on Facebook or Twitter so we can look into this for you.

I took out a 24 month contract with iD Mobile last May (2015) and was told that it was the best deal they could find for me. I had just finished a contract with EE (Orange) which was £45.00 a month for an iPhone 5 which was very expensive for me as I was a student at the time, so I thought that the iD Mobile deal I was shown would have been great for me. It was supposed to be £12.50 a month, so I walked away from Carphone Warehouse feeling pretty pleased with myself having found a really cheap contract on a good deal. :T
A few months after signing up, I added on 1 extra GB of data, which was about £5.00 extra a month. Not that long after that, I got cut off for what I thought was for no reason whatsoever, until I rang up and found out that I had a 'ShockProof' cap on my plan and that I couldn't go any higher than 500 minutes, which I had gone over. This was obviously my fault, so I paid for 200 more minutes every month for a couple of quid.
Early this year I kept being charged about £40.00 a month for no reason whatsoever. I tried ringing up iD but the customer service was awful, and I had trouble understanding what they were saying as the signal was breaking up, probably because they were based in South Africa (I think). I tried to ask why my bill was so high and they said it was probably because the numbers I called were not covered in my plan, so it would cost more than usual.
Honestly, would NOT recommend iD mobile, and when my contract runs out next May I will probably go back with EE as I found that I had zero problems with them.0 -

I've an iPhone SE on preorder since last week and rang up to track progress of order. Was told would not be able to locate me on their system and they absolutely could not tell me what stage my order was at (had been turned down by EE at credit check stage and was told on Friday a cc would be going through, but nothing whatsoever from them).
Then found this and other threads and decided would rather cancel. Rang up, was told sales couldn't help, so was put through to Carphone Warehouse, even through was ordered directly with id. CW couldn't help so put back through to id, who then put me through to Aubrey. He then said he was unable to cancel but would just have to wait for phone to arrive and then return it. I sad no, esp as my confirmation email said I could cancel by ringing the number I had rung.
Finall, after three attempts he managed to cancel. I then asked for proof of cancellation and was told this was not possible. I cannot believe that the system that is able to confirm an order is unable to email to confirm cancellation of said order. After 30 mins Aubrey finally said to email enquiries@idmobile.co.uk for proof of cancellation, but this has bounced back, as has the email to the address confirming my order.
I don't have Facebook/Twitter, so how on earth am I meant to contact them for proof????
I have used all the main providers over the years and this is the worst service by a long chalk AVOID AVOID AVOID
TL;dr
Rubbish, avoid, anyone have a direct email address for id mobile?:eek::eek: LBM 11/05/2010 - WE DID IT - DMP of £62000 paid off in 7 years:jDFD April20170 -
Hi, really sorry to hear of your experience. Once the order has been cancelled it should then auto generate an email confirming cancellation. If you can email queries@idmobile.co.uk the Team will be able to email you back with confirmation. Many thanks.Official Company Representative
