Going on a blind date

Why has this mutual friend not just arranged some social event where they both get invited or is this separation of social groups important.0

I think you are right about not wanting sex on the first date but as you are such a gentleman I think you should demonstrate it by paying the bill. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

My two longest relationships were sex on the first date ones....
Funnily enough the shortest was the one who had to wait longest :rotfl:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
To the OP how was the date?
A friend of mine years ago went on a blind date, luckily he was skinny enough to escape through the toilet window in Pizza Hut as the date who described herself as a page 3 model was more like a page 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 model.0 -
what a miserable skinflint. I hope she's an absolute cracker - and doesn't like the look of you.
Soooo disagree, the OP never arranged the blind date and even so, enough of the free riders , enough!Miserable? Afraid not buddyskinflint? Its ironic really considering this is a money saving website, so the probability of people on here being skinflints as you describe them, is probably very high.
This thread epitomises the nature of some of the people who operate on this forum board. On no other part of this forum do you see such vitriol aimed towards people who ask for advice. Some people are only here to attack which then prompts the others to join in. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. I for one do not give a !!!! what you bigots think of me because none of you are worth my time
You go and enjoy yourself my friend, 50/50 I'm all for that, long term if one is allergic to earning and spending their own money, they are not worth being with, ultimately they will drag you down.0 -

Why should the OP have to prove themselves, or why not both of them prove themselves? I remember there is a name for people who exchange love for materialism :eek:0 -

I didn't say he had to prove himself and its definitely not about materialism at all. It just makes a really good impression on a first date if a bloke is willing to foot the bill. It shows a generous nature and a nice attitude. Does the money really matter that much? I can't talk to the lady in question so I am saying to the man to go into it with an open mind and not a mean attitude and hopefully it should work out well for him.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
The thing is, its not about a free ride. Its a date for goodness sake where two people are supposed to be getting to know each other. They should both be on their best behaviour and if that means paying for something (heaven forbid ), then so be it.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

You are correct, you didn't write prove himself, you did put demonstrate, my reply still stands though, they both should demonstrate themselves as 'worthy' characters, indeed if it's not about materialism, then both party's shouldn't mind putting up their bit.
Going 50/50 doesn't show as mean, both should go into it with an open mind.
I remember going on a date from pof she was 60 miles away, I recall her saying 'when are we going to meet, so I can see if there is any chemistry?' I made it clear that I was not being interviewed and if I'm driving 60 miles she is paying for the meal , good to her word she did pay for the meal, sadly for her we didn't have any chemistry whatever that is .0 -
I don't think there's much point in discussing the man pays vs going Dutch on a first date, as both camps tend to be firmly entrenched in their belief and won't budge.0
