Mobile Override discussion

I joined on monday and this is a really good service.
Im using my free minutes using a 00 access and calling international calls for pretty good prices (& if anyone says i shouldf use other ways - problem is i NEED to use my mobile for these calls)
:j0 -
Do you know if there is any inexpensive mobile override number to call to cut the cost of calling home from abroad from one's mobile? I've just returned from spending a fortnight in Egypt but my holiday's been somewhat spoiled at the high cost of calling home from my T Mobile phone. I've been charged £45.22 for making 20 minutes worth of calls and this is despite having nearly 100 'free' minutes still left on my monthly call allowance. I am a contract customer with T Mobile and I think that such charges are just wrong!MSE_Dan wrote:0 -

Just give Martin huge Thanks for finding a way around the extortionate call charges to mobiles!!MSE_Martin wrote:Dibberly.
To answer your question "how much research goes into the newsletter". Well that depends on the point. The override article is a major piece of research - it was my 'new article' of which their is one a week and a shorter version is published in a national newspaper.
I pride myself on my dilegent research and the headline article is always the number one. There are approximately 35 hours of work in that piece (mine with help from research assistants).
As for the Telco figures, that comes from the Centrica press offfice which now owns Telco as well as One-Tel (its bigger company relationaship). This article is thoroughly and in-depth researched.
It's interestesting to read your experience differs with the info I received from the company, and do take it on board. Sadly Telco demand you have to be an exisitng customer which isn't much fun, and therefore limits the use for others.

Hi.
Alpha Telecom (https://www.alphatelecom.com) are promoting FREE calls internationally to 21 countries from your mobile phone. They use a mobile override number (starting 07744) which if you call from your mobile, means you get a further 3p per minute off their standard override tarrif.
For example, call a mobile or landline in the USA from a UK landline using the 0800 override number, and its 3p per minute.
Make the same call from your mobile using the 07744 number, and they discount you 3p per minute, meaning you get the call for free.
Use your free mobile phone contract minutes to call a mobile in the USA and 20 other countries for nothing...
Also, there is NO mention connection fee. They quote: "There are no connection fees or rental charges and international, national and local rates apply all day, everyday."
The closest I can see to a connection charge is that the first 12 seconds are charged at 1/5th of a minute, then you are charged in increments of full minutes after that. But if the standard rate is 3p discounted to 0p, I'm not sure if they charge you one fifth of the standard 3p connection charge for the first 12 seconds, or 0p connection charge. Either way its low I think.
Oh, and they give you £5 free calls credited to your account if you sign up here: http://www.alphatelecom.com/uk/ratefinder.aspx?navid=2
Seems like a bargain to me if your mobile provider will allow 07744 calls as part of your free allowance each month.
I'm just signing up now - hope you find it useful.Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -

wouldn't it be chaeper, easier, many more countries included, no joining etc... to use: https://www.simply-fone.com 07744 97 3333 ?

As long as you are not a 3,Orange,or Vodafone user it does seem better to use SF as Francine points out.PF.0 -

I dont recall saying it would be good to use Alpha on those networks. The point i was trying to make was that 07744 indirect access numbers cannot be used on those networks out of your inclusive minutes. In fairness to Scootermac he does say this but he doesnt name the networks, thats why i have mentioned them.
Given that Alpha have less of a choice of countries i agree that it does seem silly to pay Alpha when you can getter a wider choice of destinations with Simply-Fone foc.PF.0 -
Alpha launched that service in December or so. But once I discovered S-F shortly after this, I used that much more. I support the others' comments.
The first 12 seconds is not a connection fee; there is none. They have per minute billing, offset by a fifth of a minute (to let people hang up wasted calls cheaply), so call charges would be for 0.2, 1.2, 2.2 min etc. For many of these calls of course, there is no charge.
For me though, the Alpha account is still useful for calling from abroad0
