One thing I've read about with Virgin (but not yet checked myself) is that time spent on national rate numbers counts towards the first five minutes of calls per day i.e. make 5 mins of calls to another network via 0871, then subsequent calls to landlines/Virgin are just 5p a minute. Unfortunately, the national rate calls stay at 15p/min.

I'll be actively using Virgin from Monday when my number transfers to them (I'm in-between contracts) so if the situation occurs, I'll report back.

    Dibberly.

To answer your question "how much research goes into the newsletter". Well that depends on the point. The override article is a major piece of research - it was my 'new article' of which their is one a week and a shorter version is published in a national newspaper.

I pride myself on my dilegent research and the headline article is always the number one. There are approximately 35 hours of work in that piece (mine with help from research assistants).

As for the Telco figures, that comes from the Centrica press offfice which now owns Telco as well as One-Tel (its bigger company relationaship). This article is thoroughly and in-depth researched.

It's interestesting to read your experience differs with the info I received from the company, and do take it on board. Sadly Telco demand you have to be an exisitng customer which isn't much fun, and therefore limits the use for others.

Martin, I'm surprised you didn't mention 18866 as a mobile override option given that you rate it for cheap land line calls.

I use 18866 with my orange everyday 50 contract. 18866 use an 0808 number which is free on Orange (appears as FREEPHONE on bill), and I think they are cheaper than telco or onetel.

I have been using them on Orange since may/june last year and it has never been blocked like onetel used to be all the time.

They now hit you with a 2p connection charge and I think landline calls are 0.5p/min.

Calls are cheaper if you use their access code (18866) from a landline.

    check them out at https://www.call18866.co.uk

This is probably the only reason I stay with Orange.

The reason I didn't mention call18866 is it doesn't have an override service. It may currently work, but its not designed to do so - if it disappears, it'll simply go and be charged for.

Israel is only 2p connection charge and 2p a minute on Orange using call18866, 0808 access no. Not many providers beat there tariffs.
