I use both, for different tasks, and am happy with both, although It can get annoying when I confuse myself with the different shortcuts.
And there is some software that I use that only works with a Win OS, mainly 3rd party dev apps.

These reasons dont apply to me any more you see..

    1) I don't believe that mac's are ever well priced for most peoples needs. (the reason so many of us buy £300 laptops is because we don't need high-spec machines...)

My cheapest PC purchase has been £600 and thats what im using now because I have finally come to my senses that Im not actually a Millionaire:p but I reckon over the Last 10 years Ive had an average spend of £1500+, and Ive had 9 PC's:eek:

I just find the cheap as chips PC's too slow for my liking and Vista is a greedy !!!!!!.

    2) I work with windows, everyone I know uses windows...why would I want to be different? Using 1 OS just makes life so much easier :) Yeah, I could put it on a dual boot...but why would I want to, given point 1 and the below:

I no longer require Windows for my work thus can change. I dont have to restrict myself because what other people are using. Ive noticed alot of the Mac software is now convertable to similair Microsoft software which i was using. e.g Office 2007 can be opened and converted in iworks 08

    3) I like being able to upgrade/modify my PC...

Apart from maybe upgrading the memory im not interested in upgrading anything else.

    4) Apple's evil. (but we won't go into that..)

AppleCare seems to be one of the few extended warranties that are actually worthwhile, especially for the laptops. I haven't taken it out myself but I've had to deal with a couple of problems that have been covered by the 12 month warranty and I've found Apple to be very good (along with my local dealer Scotsys).

I wouldn't say it was essential for the desktops but I'd recommend it for a laptop.

Well so far I haven't had anyone say a bad word about them so looks like i will deffo be converting very soon.

I always try to reserch stuff before I buy and I hear they are releasing a new OS X leopard in October which has some nifty new stuff on it, so I think I'll wait till then.

If anyones used the Apple-care, please let me know how you found it
as I'm considering purchasing that with it.

    otherwise thanks everyone.

I've always been a mac girl, with some PC dabbling for a few years (boyfriend came with one...) We use G5s at work, one blew a power supply, but it was a known fault and well within warranty, so Apple fixed it no problems. I have an iMac at home, and the current boyfriend (who also came with a PC) is in love with it. It is the nicest looking computer I've ever had at home, and fantastic for what I do (video editing and graphic based work). Everyone comments on how nice it is.
Personally, I wouldn't wait for Leopard, I have Tiger and there's not that many gadgets to tempt me to Leopard. If anything, seeing as the brand new iMacs (unless you want a tower/ laptop) have just come out yesterday, I'd get one of the 'old' style models for probably cheaper somewhere.
As for AppleCare, yes. I've had a couple go wrong on me (out of 10 over 2 decades), and all have been out of warranty. That's when it can get expensive.
Have fun when you get one!!

That's one area Apple do have a bad reputation for, certainly going by people on this board having ipod problems. Apple don't seem to want to comply with UK law and will refuse to repair (without charge) anything out of warranty if it is bought directly from them.

Thanks for the advice, but you've given me a new idea.

Get a girlfriend on the basis she owns a Mac:D I will then have acquired a free Mac;)

However, I will have to find a way of returning the girlfriend back to manufacturer(her mum and dad) without having to return the Mac.:p

not sure that's in the T & Cs lol.
I have one of both (mac and PC that is, not girlfriends). The mac is way better on many things. However there are occasions which are Windows only (many media sites, the iPlayer etc) if that matters to you. macs are only simple once you've worked out how to use them and it is different.
I had bad advice from AppleCare, which is an Indian call centre, so called the Apple store and got it sorted. Do you live near an Apple Store? If not, that could be a pain. HTH.

Good point, Just checked and there is a Apple Store in Birmingham which is about 1/2 hour drive down the motorway from where I live. So thats not too far just in case of any problems.

I converted to Macs 4 years ago and love them. I've converted my wife and 2 sons onto Macs as well and they say....... why bother with PC's.
They're reliable, you click pn something and it works, no hard drive churning over, tick tick tick ticking. Plug in a printer, camera, phone and no need to install drivers......they just work :-)
    Buy one.....you won't regret it.
