Rikki , the cap really hurts! My bessie mate does my hair (she is a hair dresser) BUT she has to hand me a tissue at the begining, don't have it done just before your 'due' as I have found myself to be far more sensitive! and don't have it done if your hairdresser is having a bad day..........so all in all have foils, they are applied far closer to the scalp, you can have more weaved in colours (I have 3 applied at the mo)but its so much less stress.Panda xx

If you have long hair, please please dont go for the cap method.about 5years ago, i went to a hairdresser for lowlights.my hair came midway down my back and she used the cap method. She did do a lot of other things wrong as well, granted, but i was told that it is not a very good idea to use a cap on long hair in the first place.
To cut a very long story short, a hell of a lot of my hair fell out,the rest went like candyfloss, and i ended up taking her to court and suing her. i got a substantial settlement, and she lost her hairdressing business.
however i have NEVER set foot in a hairdressers again as i am so nervous about letting someone touch my hair. my hair is now very brittle and thin, so please don't opt for the cap method. i would hate for anyone else to suffer the way i have0 -

That would be my advice too. My daughter has long hair and has had it done a couple of times using the cap but only because she forgets in between how painful it is. Mind you, as my friend only charges her £11 for a whole head of highlights she figures the pain is worth it on her head, rather than hitting her pocket.0 -
Good luck with it Rikki. I regularly have my low/hi lights done, as I go to my salons training night, and get them done for a fraction of the normal price. Most salons do this so worth asking.
I always have copper, caramel and a majimeche (blonde) on my hair - which is the beauty of foils, you can have a few different colours, which gives a great effect. Also, depending on whether you want a dramatic effect (slices) or a subtle colour (weaves) your stylist has more flexibility on how to apply the colour with foils. I have slices (solid sections of hair) put through mine as I like it to be very noticeable. With weaves, the stylist will take a section of hair, then using the comb, weave the hair, so that a few strands have colour applied to them for a more natural look.
Let us know how you get on.

Ok, the news has just been on that hair dyes are being recalled and banned due to a cancer risk, and this reminds me that mine is due for a dye.
I'm about 30% grey with dark brown hair, and though I'm prepared to go grey gracefully, I don't plan to do that until I'm at least 40!!
Does anyone have any OS suggestions for dying hair, needs to be permanent, cover grey and just a plain dark brown... oh, and non carcinogenicSoftstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Lush do some hair dyes that fit all your requirements, except they aren't particularly OS and are probably expensiveMurphy's No More Pies Club #209

Ban hair dyes - they must be off their trolley - even I'd blow up the houses of parliament if they did that to me!
I'll have to stock up before they disappear off the shelvesOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things
