I went from dark brown to peroxide blonde - and regretted it!

I used a BBlonde bleach kit, not only did the fumes make me want to gag, it left my hair an awful state, breaking off, poor condition, felt like hay... literally! I kept using tons of moisturising shampoo on it and couldn't tame it at all.

Toni and Guy trainee nights i've found are good for consultations, if she goes to for a consultation, talk to the assistant doing it (if she's into boys, might be worth you being cheeky and asking if you can get a lad to do her consultation, and get him to try and change her mind about hot having a stranger cutting her hair) - and at least he can talk about what sort of blonde would look good on her, and styles (and try to win her over maybe?)

I have blonde highlights put in regularly, but I notice that even after I've first had it done, when I pull my hair back I still have dark roots at my hair line. When my hair is loose it isn't noticeable in my parting. Is my hair dresser rubbish? Or is it something I could ask her to do differently? Hope this makes sense to someone!

  • I used to have them too.

Quite simply they can't avoid there being a tiny bit of root, because it's not a great idea to have the bleach against your scalp for any length of time (it can cause chemical burns).

I think your hairdresser sounds quite sensible!

  • some hair dressers do it so you have to have it done sooner :( mine use to do it all the time so i binned her and my mum dyes it for me and i have a home hair dresser to cut it now it saves me a fortune :)

How far away is it from the root? I changed my hairdresser as I was fed up getting asked "oh did you not bother going to the hairdresser then"? The final straw was when she did it over half an inch away from the root and I complained and was told off. New hairdresser, you're lucky if its a couple of millimetres away from the root. They're good and they're students. Somaybe try going to your local college and getting it down I'd happily recommend it.

Yeah they're leaving a lot of root and it looks like I haven't even had it done. I have an appointment tomorrow and I'm going to bring it up, but if it doesn't work I will look into the local college idea. Thanks for the advice :)

    Hi

I've been with my current hair stylist for about 4ish years (maybe longer) and want/need a change. He doesn't seem to do what I ask in terms of colour.

I've been ringing a few hair salons locally for a comparison of prices but I'm not sure what I have done in terms of colour so I can't compare prices. I'm going grey so obviously get the roots done each time, I also get some other colours put in (he uses a word beginning with s, I would know it if you mentioned it) (not that you can really tell, hence why I want to change). Sometimes there's one other colour, sometimes two.

My normal colour is mousy brown-ish and my hair is shorter than shoulder length, it touches my collar at the back just before I go back to get it cut. It's in a bob shape.

So when I ring, do I need a price for a cut and then a colour but it's the colour bit that I need explaining a bit so I can get an accurate price.

Sorry if I've rambled on a bit.

    Thanks

  • Hiya Ms C, just popped by to look for diet threads and noticed this.

Its a shame your stylist isnt giving you what you want, have you had a word with him about it, I'm sure he wouldn't want to lose your business.

In my area (don't know if its the same with you) most salons offer a cut and blow dry in with the colour / highlighting price, unless it is a complete restyle then they may charge a little extra - always get a price first.

There will probably be one price for an all over permanent colour, semi permanents and quasis are rarely cheaper but wont last as long Then foil highlights are usually charged by how many colours you have. There is usually a difference for longer hair and shorter hair, but yours is above shoulder so should be middle of the road price.

Is there a hair colour that you like the look of, take a magazine or picture with you, your natural colour will have a bearing on the end result of course but a good colourist will advise you on a realistic result.

    Hope that helps

I have just had my hair done - it was long and scruffy and my roots were in desperate need. I opted for a cut/colour/blowdry and it cost me £52 - I was booked in with the colourist first who did my colour all over which was then baked whilst I sat with a magazine and a pot of tea, then I had it washed and cut by the stylist. I now have a graduated bob (and need to wear a scarf because my neck is cold):D I never learn and always have long hair in the summer and short hair in the winter.

If I were you I'd change stylists - when you visit a new salon ask if you can speak to the colourist or whoever will be colouring your hair. You can discuss colours, types of application and even styles with them - sometimes you can do this before you even book an appointment to have the work done.

    Hope this helps.

To get an accurate quote you really need to pop into the salon and let the stylist see your hair, they can then determine (usually) what colour(s) you currently have in, and also if you have a clear picture of what you'd like that really helps, and they can then tell you if it's possible and how much it will cost!! :D
