  • Well it has been a long time. Thought I would update for my own accountability.

I am still chipping away at the debt. I need to stop going on holiday. I can’t afford holidays. I have had some amazing trips in the last two years but it has got to stop. I need to get a house.

I have changed jobs and have moved to the school I want my daughter to attend. It is written in their admissions that staff can have a place for their children. So technically I could live anywhere now. I miss my old job though and I am struggling to settle in.

I am still a year off having money for a deposit.

But plugging away slowly. Very! Aghhhh

    Thanks Mags.

I clearly hadn’t really had my light bulb moment before. Aghh
  • I feel so stupid.

I have just looked through all of my debt and it is at £13000.

I am stuck in a cycle of holidays to get some time alone and dealing with my teaching job which I am finding quite hard at the moment.

I need to get rid of the debt and but a house. I should be able to do this.
What is wrong with me? Feeling down at the moment.

    Just finished your whole diary.
I don't really have much advice as I am trying to pay of debt and save and I'm kind of failing.
Would love to keep reading your updates as it's very aspiring.

Have you maybe tried visual help? Not that it worked for me but I have laminated saving goals ( I made a poster with lots of legoland things on their for example and printed out a diagram and then laminated it so everytime we save for legoland we can make a line on it to see it grow)!
    Good luck

    Hi Ej22

Thank you. That is a good idea about laminated goals I like it. Imay try something similar.

I think I really need to keep a spending diary for a month and see how much I actually waste on rubbish.

Well the old cliche - New year new me.

It has to be though or I will never own a house.

    So as it stands

    Debt £13000

    Income - £2000
    Outgoings without food-£500

Leaves £1500 for food, life, over payments, kids clubs.

I should be able to clear this in a year! What is wrong with me?

    Grrrrr!

I overspend on takeaways, amazon and nights out.

This needs to stop for my financial and physical health. The weight is creeping on.

Well so much for quitting spending.

My daughters school trip was due they need the money by the 22nd January so that has to come out of this months budget so that was £160,

My friends husband bought us a champagne afternoon tea which he paid for. It was so lovely to catch up with my friends but I had to buy wine afterwards so I spent £20.

The local panto was selling tickets for £10 instead of £25. So we had a trip there . My daughter loved it and I was happy to see her smile. Though we spent £6 on ice cream. I did take sweets with us.

Then we got a takeaway for tea. So I now know where my money goes even in a few days.

    £160 school trip
    £26 panto
    £25 takeaway
    £20 afternoon out

    Total £231

I need to go back to work. I have had a chat with my daughter. I told her that we could get out own house more quickly if we seriously cut down. She did say to me last night ‘ make something don’t get a takeaway ‘ she is right of course.
