MSE News: Amazon shopper? It's upping the minimum spend needed for free delivery

I'm trialling Amazon Prime at the moment and I'm very happy with it.
All this week, the Daily Mail is serialising Amelia Freer's book 'Eat. Nourish. Glow' and Amazon's price beat the Daily Mail bookshop by 5.74 and I got free next day delivery. In my local Waterstone's, the price is 14.99 so I saved over £7.
Also, when comparing prices, think about the fuel/fares you are saving as well. If you're going by bus/train and forking out £6 return, 4.99 or whatever for postage would save money.
We've saved about £12 on rental prices for movies already so yeah I'm happy but I am contemplating Netlix too.0 -
Right. Try this one for size. This is how I've managed to get free amazon prime for the past year and bit (although not continuous). This assumes you are still eligible for a trial.
Find an item you want on amazon, lets say £100
Go down morrisons (doesn't have to be, but you can get free fuel if you buy enough), buy 4x £20 amazon gift cards, and 1x £25 3v card
Add the gift cards to your account. Make sure you have no debit or credit cards linked to your account!!
Purchase the item and cover the £20 shortfall with the 3v card. You'll be offered a free prime trial.
Get items delivered. 48 hours later you'll get an email from amazon saying they can't confirm your prime details, as you only have £5 in there, and they want to take £79 or at least check its available. Ignore it (you won't be able to select 'my prime' from your account). 10 days later you'll get an email to say your prime has been cancelled.
Wait 24 hours, go to purchase another item and you'll be offered another trial. Rinse and repeat.
Plus you'll get a load of morrisons fuel vouchers to boot.0 -
I now buy my books from 'Hive.' Free delivery and your local bookshop gets a contribution. You can get it delivered to store too. (And no, I don't work for them!)
I don't think Amazon is always the cheapest and the potential free delivery limit change would put me right off.0 -
I got this this morning

Me too - it strikes me Amazon have not been entirely honest with MSE ... Or maybe the no plans referred to introducing it at 6pm on Wednesday ... the plan was always actually 1st May!0 -
The problem with Amazon prime is that so much stuff is excluded.
Either because it is from a 'marketplace' seller, or it has (with no explanation) a 'not available with Amazon prime' tag.
I seriously thought of joining but after doing an audit of my last couple of dozen purchases decided it wasn't worth it.
i have had a row with them about prime delivery only yesterday. CS sent me an email as i ordered a in stock item with the prime logo next to it but it didn't get next day delivery. i ordered around 11.30 am but still didn;t get next day because it might be far away in the warehouse. however, if i paid £5.99 extra, i could get it next day. they just sent the email about the super saver delivery and on there it clearly states 'get unlimited next day delivery with prime for in stock items'
i replied to CS email saying they should make it more clear in the T&C's and say 'with prime, not all in stock items qualify even if it has the prime logo next to it, because your item may be far away in the warehouse somewhere so will be dispatched next day when found. however, if you pay £5.99, no matter where the item is, you'll get it delivered next day'
i await there reply! i am a prime member.0 -
it's now showing £20 (£10 for books) live on thier website.0

Looks as though I'll now be shopping more at Argos, eBay, Wilkinsons etc. I can understand them raising the threshold, but to double it is very harsh.0
