MSE News: Air Passenger Duty scrapped from 1 May for under 12s: Reclaim

  • The flights were booked in 2014 and WizzAir continued to apply full APD for children for many months after - either due to the fact they thought not many people would bother claiming or they had already agreed on a strategy to be as difficult as possible in allowing people to claim.

I am really frustrated and disappointed with the fact that I contacted them so many times (web form, e-mail, phone) and no one is getting back to me, no one understand what I explain to them (and I even sent them website links to read).

    Hi MSE

I spoke to BA this morning, I have a group booking of ten persons ( 2 children 3,4) and one infant, the flight is due to depart on the 22/08/15.

The flight was booked on 08/10/14.

Because it is a group booking BA group sales have informed me that the tax exemption does not count. BA said I would still have to pay for the infant as they claim that tax still applies. ( GROUP BOOKING)

I spoke to them about the new legislation and regardless of a group booking the tax should be deducted for the two children and the infant.

I am not convinced by BA's policy? please advise..

    Regards

    LEE
  • Unless you bought a seat for the infant they have not paid any APD.
It is refundable whether it's for one child or 101. It is irrelevant whether it's a group booking or not.

The tax isn't APD though. Only passengers with a seat are charged APD. Where are you flying to?

£12.66 is the Passenger Service Charge which is payable for infants, children and adults. Had you been charged APD it would have been a further £13. The taxes are all broken down on BA website when you book, so do a dummy booking to check them.
  • Same story with GoToGate .Told a return child ticket to Australia only entitled me to £13 refund.I was expecting close to £100.Then I was told the refund of £13 would cost £55 in admin charges.Bloody Crooks ! GoToGaol more like.Outrageous!
  • Thomas Cook website states - "Please note, the refund will not apply to holiday bookings made for children under the ‘Kids for £1’ promotion or any other holiday or flight promotion."

    Is this correct?

    Hi,

I booked and paid tickets through Garuda's website in Oct-14 for my family flying to Indonesia in Aug-15 .

My son who is now 7 year old should be due a refund on his APD.
I can see the APD component listed down as £71.

I tried to call their customer service representative in the UK to be told that I should instead contact their ebooking because the tickets were bought online.

After emailing their ebooking customer service and asking for the refund of APD for my son's ticket, finally they said they refused to do the refund. I have tried to clearly explain about the new regulation from 1st May for under 12s but they still refused to refund. Then they closed the case without further explanation and asked me to open a new case if I want to contact them again.

What can I do in this situation? Do they have the rights to refuse the APD refund?
