What are you doing with your Capital One card ?
As the title suggests we all should have received the dreaded letter of cash back death to our beloved Capital One card.
I've been reading the thread about it, and opinions seem mixed, just to get an idea on what peoples thoughts are, I thought I'd start a poll just to find out MSE member intentions.
Since we all 'aspire' (:o) to be Money Saving Experts, how many will actually ditch and switch ?
Cheers,
NoviceAngel

Keep the card not use it, but keep it for the extras e.g. Credit monitoringI'm still thinking about this. The free Equifax Alerts are useful, so it'll be interesting if that perk remains. If so, I may keep the card, reduce the credit limit and apply for any other cashback card. (I already have AmEx. I have just opened a Nationwide FlexDirect account and been pre-approved for their 0.5% cashback card. (my cap one rate has been reduced to zero.)0

Keep the card but use it much less.I'm keeping mine and using it to pay for anything over £2000 as that is all the credit limit is on my Nationwide select card, which I will use for my normal credit card purchases.
At my age I can't be bothered getting another credit card.over 73 but not over the hill.0 -

There's nothing to stop you from approaching Nationwide and ask the question....
If I close my Cap1 card account in favour of Nationwide will you increase my limit?
I think they would ........After reading PtL Vaubans Guide , please don't desert us, hang around and help others!

Keep the card but use it much less.I'll be keeping mine for the 0% foreign spending. Will look at other cards that have both this and cashback once June rolls around0

Halifax Clarity springs to mind... but I never got 0% foreign spending on my Cap1, I'd like to know how many incarnations of the Cap1 card they were, must be around 10 at least, with different T & C's. Some paid annual fee some didn't some have been reduced to 0.5% cashback most 0% ?After reading PtL Vaubans Guide , please don't desert us, hang around and help others!

I haven't received any notification about stopping my 1% casback and my last statement showed me still accruing it, so I'll hang on to it but if they axe my cash back I'll cancel itMS Stalwart. I did read that Cap1 have axed all 1% cashback rates some dropping to 0.5% but nobody seems to know which, I have a Luma at 4% for supermarket and a flat 1% on Capital One World, £18 fee and I recall a £10 statement credit for being a good girl! Both now 0%
Either way you will get that letter I'm afraid.......After reading PtL Vaubans Guide , please don't desert us, hang around and help others!

I too got the dreaded letter. It's a real shame as I have really gotten used to the 1% cashback on everything I spend. I'm not keen on the Amex cashback cards because I don't like the fact that they are not accepted in many places so I'd have to carry around a 2nd card anyway. Also, they have a confusing tiered system or some annual fee. I'm more keen on a cashback card that is Mastercard or Visa, has a single flat cashback rate and doesn't have an annual charge. The two cards that fit this bill are the Aqua card at 0.5% and the Asda credit card at 0.5%. I'm leaning more towards the Asda one because it actually gives you 1% cashback when using it in Asda stores (I don't shop there much but it's a nice bonus).
Is there anything better than that for what I'm looking for?0 -

I don't think so, the combo I have is I think from an old Morgan Stanley card that Barclays bought and issued 0.5% Barclaycard and 1% Amex. I'm happy to carry both cards, because when faced with the 'We don't accept Amex prompt' I whip out the 0.5% Barclaycard.
The point to note that it's a 1% cashback on the Amex not tired and no annual fee. I do have an Amex Blue that pays 1.25% on spending above £10k per annum, but probably would only just hit that mark, so the Barclays combo is the best for me before they end that! After reading PtL Vaubans Guide , please don't desert us, hang around and help others!
