The browser used can affect the offer page that is displayed. Following the same link in different browsers can give either £100 or £125.

Both those links take me to a page offering £100 when I use Firefox. Opera and IE give me £100 and £125 respectively.

If you look here it's £125 directly with First Direct at the moment.

    http://www1.firstdirect.com/1/2/banking/current-account

Again Firefox offers £100. Other browsers £125.

Thanks for all this information posters. I was looking to open up a first direct and could only see £100 opening incentive. Was going to hold fire for a while to see if they increased it but looks like I can now go ahead.

    Yes – its very confusing.

I was told what matters is the offer available when you applied for the account – online or by phone. Given the ID requirements if you don’t pass online verification (i.e. HMRC letters or certified/stamped passports etc) it can be several weeks later by the time the account is opened. So keep a note of the dates!

They had the £125 offer available direct from early January to 13 February – then it dropped to £100.

Since then its supposedly been £100 – unless you apply via Moneysupermarket/MSE whereby its £125.

But if you click on the site directly it says £100 on some pages and £125 on others – and has been observed it varies by browser as internet explorer gives you £100 but google chrome (which doesn’t show the moneysupermarket logo/offer) and firefox (which shows the moneysupermarket offer logo) has £125?

Maybe their IT team need to sort this out!

Frankly you don't need to make a huge issue out of this as First Direct seem pretty good at simply paying the difference if you mention to them that the inducement you signed up to was higher than what they have given you.

I agree they are friendly and helpful - but its very confusing as to what the offer is at any time!

Why isn't their website showing the same info on all browsers?!

On the phone with them now and she is insisting that it's only £100 and has been so since sometime in February

Lady on the phone says that they are not going to give me the £25 as the offer is for £100 and has been since February (can't remember the date she said).

Also, I rang this morning and was promised a call back after they had looked into it. When I asked the girl just now what happened to my phone call she said that there was nothing on my account to say that they were looking into it. So much for excellence customer service!!

So now, what are MSE going to do about this as they are still advertising £125

Send them a message. In the message say that you have just opened the account and that when you did so there was an offer to pay £125. Tell them in the message that if the additional £25 isn't forthcoming then you will leave them and then claim the £100 leaving gift.

    Yes - its annoying.

The £125 direct offer ended on Friday 13 February - perhaps that date has spooked their website!
