Do you tip your hairdresser?

My hairdresser comes to my home to cut and colour my hair. Have known her for years. I never give her a tip, in fact she started to give ME a discount for being such a good customer! However, I refused the discount as she is a single mum. Can I point out that she earns more than me!0

I tip taxi drivers as my dad is one and I know they are classed as self employed so do not receive any minimum wage and have to pay their expenses including insurance, taxi rates (to the taxi company), registration fees etc and petrol. By the time all the business expenses are paid my dad receives less than the minimum wage, he does receive some help from the government but it isn’t much and he lives by himself so can’t afford to go out much, he doesn’t have the best of everything but he’s proud that he works for himself, despite the drunks, druggies and other abusive people he gets in his taxi.
However when I was on minimum wage I didn’t tip anyone. How would I be able to tip, surely then I would be less than another minimum wage person as I do not get tips? Everything was spent on rent, bills, food and saving for a car. It goes for people out of work as well. They need their haircut to look appropriate and neat and tidy for job interviews but can hardly tip out of 70 quid a week which has to go towards food and bills and transport as well.

I have a home hairdresser and when I tried to tip her the first time she came she refused it saying she doesn't accept tips. She charges me £7 for a restyle but also charges the same for just a trim.
I'm happy and she's happy. Don't know what I'll do when she retires as I hate going to the hairdressers - so probably grow my hair long again!

Not now she comes to my house as she gets it all. Before I gave her 10% as the cut fee went to the shop.0

i Do tip but always feel that they charge enough already so I am uncomfortable. £16 for a 15 min blow dry for a pensioner seem excesive!0

My barber charges £4. I give him a fiver and tell him to keep the change.0

Don't ever tip anyone, they have chosen to do a job, as previous comments why select out certain trades and decide they need a tip, some people do horrible jobs for low wages and nobody cares about that.0

I am totally against tipping anyone. In this case hairdressers charge more than enough in the first place. I am now retired, but in my job I never got nor expected a tip. I got a salary for doing my job. If I get good service then it is no more than I would expect from anyone, and its called doing a job properly.0

I always tip my barber. He does a good job every time and he deserves the extra. If he put his prices up, he may lose custom to those that charge less, but don't go as good a job. Then he might close down and I'd have to find another barber I trust.
I normally round up to the next note. If it's just me, his £8 becomes 10. Sometimes I'm with 1 or both of my two boys, so then I give either 15 or 20. Around Christmas, or his birthday, I round up to 20 for my haircut.0 -
I am a hairdresser & contrary to popular belief,we don't all expect a tip but are very grateful when one is received, however much it is0
