Do you tip your hairdresser?

I never understand how people can pay £50, £100 or more for their hairdo each month.
I pay £87 for a cut and colour every seven weeks. I could probably get away with leaving the cut longer but in seven weeks my grey roots looks really awful so I have to have them done. If I've not had to wait long, or the conversation has been interesting or they've been quiet and not hassled me then I'll round up an £8 haircut to £10. This is probably about half the time so averages out at about 10%.0

My barber charges £13.50 so I give him £15.00.
I tend to have about four inches off then leave it for ages so he earns it!Start Date 02-09-2024CC1 £569

I struggle to understand how anyone would spend £70-£100 on a haircut too, but on the other hand, I also struggle to understand how someone spends £100-£150 a month on cigarettes like some folk I know. Or £120 a month at the pub!
And sometimes, it will be this type who will scoff at people paying £70 for a haircut every 6 weeks LOL (•_•) (•_•)

Erg OP, I feel for you. I have social anxiety disorder and a trip to the hairdresser is one of my least favourite things to do
There is all the touching, the awkward conversation ("Did I watch Britain's got talent the other day?" - "No. I don't really watch TV" ... *massively awkward silence*). Then the really ODD hair massage when washing it (Is this meant to be a NICE thing, or is it suppose to get my hair cleaner??). Then you get a cup of tea.. but you can't REACH the tea.. if I move, the hairdresser forcefully repositions my head!! Then my face gets an itch and I have to try and endure if for fear of offending my hairdresser... Then comes the "tipping" question..
So, no, I don't tip. My last hair cut cost me £49 for just a simple trim, I think thats plenty for less than an hours work.
I also don't get why certain people get tipped and some don't, I have done plenty of minimum wage jobs in the past (supermarket checkout for ex) and didn't get tips so the "poor pay" argument doesn't hold to me.0

Well yes. I don't smoke, barely drink, don't have a cell phone contract or a Sky contract and don't wear make-up so I reckon my only vice is having my hair done."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

My hairdresser has a salon at her house. I don't tip each time I have my haircut but do buy her something like a bottle of wine/ box of chocs at Christmas.0

Yes I normally tip the hairdresser, but feel really awkward doing so.0

Blimey I pay for my missus to get her hair done and she tells me it is £100.00 a time so to see costs here of approx. £50.00 makes me believe she is telling porkies.
I did wonder why new shoes appear every now and then. Lol0

Not usually a tipper myself. Again i agree why should some professions 'expect' it and others not. Everyone is no doubt working hard.
As for self-employed Hairdressers/Beauticians, they set their own prices, so shouldn't need tips on top, surely. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0
