I would start saving some money OP if the pup recovers no doubt there will be more health issues caused by poor breeding and husbandry.

I know two people who "rescued" puppies from a farm, both dogs have suffered with numerous ailments which have been very costly and no insurance company will cover them.

    Nah, no money to save.

Dog will be more than likely be ditched as soon as the vet bills get too high. The dog was meant to cheer the family up and now it's turning out to be a right pain in the a**. The poor OP just wants to be able to hand it back to the breeder and get her money back so that she can buy a different healthy (for the time being) animal to satisfy her whims.

Only it isn't about HER (people), it is about the PUPPY. The innocent puppy that neither asked to be born nor sold to someone that cannot afford to care for it.

I am not surprised OP has had little to no sympathy. She has gone from asking of a way to take this 'defective' dog back for a refund, then switched it around to make it seem like she would never take it back to such evil people and is actually doing the dog a favour, to now keeping the pup but only IF it suits her (ie doesn't cost her any money.)

    Yeah, poor OP.

Just read this thread, what an absolute numpty, I hope they give the dog up into a rescue centre so it still has a chance of having a good life with an owner that deserves it, if you can't have £1000 spare you should have a dog!

    No - don't kick 'em.

Buy 'em a puppy to cheer them up.

I live in a "poor" area and GSD's, along with Staffies and lately, greyhounds/whippets, are the status dogs of choice. No-one ever contacts a reputable breeder, or heaven forbid, a rescue centre, they are almost always bought from a "breeder" who they find in the local paper, on Gumtree or from a card in the newsagents window.

The dogs are almost a form of currency, they are passed around different homes, often within the same family or group of friends. When they get sick or hard to control at home, or they bite a kid or attack another pet, they are then passed onto a rescue centre. The owners then speak of "missing" having a dog and the cycle starts again.

The only people that I know who have adopted a rescue dog/cat, are those who could easily afford to pay hundreds of pounds for a thoroughbred animal. They adopt a rescue pet because they know that they can give a loving home to an animal in need. Backstreet breeders simply pander to those who think that paying a few hundred quid for a dog, a large telly, a designer handbag etc etc, means that everyone thinks that they are something special.

I will cast no aspersions on the OP, I don't know her or her family, but anyone who picks a puppy from an ad on the internet and then has it delivered as though it were a parcel, deserves everything that they get. Sadly, the dog had no choice. Let's just hope that he turns out to be healthy and happy in his new home.

"AND HE WILL REMAIN WITH US, ONCE FIT & WELL, UNLESS *WE* FEEL THAT IS *NOT* AN OPTION!!!!"

Well any real pet lover wouldn't even *CONSIDER* getting rid of their pet, but you obviously are already.

Yes Hintza I am currently filing for BR, I personally can not afford to pay my debts, my family purchased the puppy for me, to try and take my mind off things!!! Yes maybe they did the wrong thing, and all I am now trying to do, is get their money back, as I am in no position to be paying vets fees etc! Which is something I/family did not consider at the time!
I now know we shouldn't have had the puppy in the manner we have and it looks as though its been a costly mistake!!

Your first post implied that you had an active role in the purchasing of this pet:

"I saw a litter of GSD puppies advertised on the Pets4Homes website"

    "I asked all relevant questions"

Not to mention you have labelled your email correspondence as "me".

You've also used "we" a lot, which you curiously haven't used in the above sentences. I am therefore in no doubt that you have just been honest in the level of involvement you had.

Why is that important? Because you're filing for BR apparently! One must question why you have gone on to say " I am in no position to be paying vets fees etc!", but you seem to answer it n the next sentence "Which is something I/family did not consider at the time!"

I'm just shocked that BR isn't your rock bottom! You're in that position, and you've just took out the spade and dug a little deeper. It boggles the mind! ESPECIALLY more so because we are talking about the care of an innocent animal! Hopefully this is a learning curve for you (it probably won't be), and you can go some way to being more responsible with money/pets (I give a shred of sympathy to you if BR was due to something out of your control).

One genuine possibilty, though (assuming you aren't lying to us), is to approach the family member(s) whom bought the dog and advise them that you are unable to care for it (giving reasons) so you are giving it back to them. If it was a gift then just give it away if the family member(s) decline, you won't be losing 400 pounds!

Your allowed £30 a month for pet costs in bankruptcy. Your also allowed to save an emergency fund, which could be used to pay vet costs up front, until insurance pays up.
Bankruptcy allows quiet generous living expenses. She wont necessarily have to pay into an ip if she has nothing left after expenses.
