I am having my first family holiday i over 12 years, I would of never of afforded to go but i won a holiday to Tenerife this is were we are staying half board 2 bed apartment with a jacuzzi,I have saved enough so far to take the kids to Siam park and the wildlife park too. Only downside is we are not going till October. has anyone been there before? its been fab reading some of your hols some amazing places to visit

Tenerife is a great place for a family holiday, have been there a few times. In addition to Siam Park, you could also consider:

    > Loro Parque - in North of island, sister park to Siam, not cheap but impressive and you can get combination tickets for both that save money. A full day excursion. More animal based, including whale and dolphin shows.
    > Aqualand Costa Adeje - not as big and developed as Siam, but cheaper and quite good for younger children.
    > Parque Las Aquilas (Jungle Park) - sister park of Aqualand, also have combi tickets for two parks. Various animals and birds of prey, plus a jungle-style assault course for kids which ours always enjoy.
    > Mount Teide - in the centre of the island, the highest mountain (volcano really) in Spain. You can take a cable car from approx 1850m up to near the top at around 3000m, amazing views on a clear day (be aware that it's cold at 3000m, even when lovely and warm below, bring a jumper or jacket).

Have been to the monkey park a few times, it's nice enough but not that big, if your kids have a short attention span you'll be done in an hour there.

You will find discount vouchers locally in the resorts for some attractions, especially Aqualand / Jungle Park, so it doesn't necessarily pay to book everything before travelling. Siam and Loro Parks don't discount much, they don't need to.

Also lots of nice beaches in the area where you will be staying, try a couple out and see what you like. We always enjoyed Playa de Fañabe with the kids, but it's a personal choice.

    Have a great time.

I've just booked a long weekend in Belgium next month but more importantly I'm looking at a trip to NZ & Aus in November/December. I'll have been made redundant by then so have as much time as I want to travel and will probably go for 4-6 weeks.

I know that this isn't the proper way to do things but I'll look for another job when I get back. I'm unlikely to have the opportunity to do this sort of trip again until I retire and that's another 20 years or so.

I'm also tempted to go to South Africa for the cricket in January but that's just getting stupid.

Ballard I disagree, I actually think that if you've got the money and you plan accordingly squeeze as much FUN and Travelling into your redundancy as you can! Milk it for aaaallllllll it's worth because once you secure your next job, you will always have excuses and be limited by how many weeks you can take off! Carpe Diem!

If you do decide to do both, do make sure to share your plans.

I think I'm LITERALLY ill! I'm not even joking, I'm bored, I'm fed up, I'd like to quit work, but that's not an option, simply, I just want to be on holiday...........FOREVER!

Where did you go, when is your next holiday?

ha, me too, that's how I feel most of the time..
I have to wait 4,268 days until I retire and I think that if I can get in 36 holidays in that time, it won't be so bad.....but I would be happy enough with at least 24 holidays....
I have even started doing lotto hotpicks with 4 numbers every Saturday, with the thought of winning £7,000, which would help me through the first 1,000 days and 5-6 holidays..........

I know that I shouldn't be wishing my time away, but work is just a pita that I fit in around holidays.
Corduroy pillows are making headlines! Back home in London now after 27years wait! Duvet know it's Christmas, not original, it's a cover.
