some posters have said that you can use 18185 with sse but how can you register with 18185 all links i try time out??
I have just had a look on https://www.18185.co.uk, pretending to be a new customer.
First I tried clicking the "signup" alongside "Get latest discounts in your mailbox" --> Error. That is the signup for the email updates.
Then I scanned around for the REAL signup to the 18185 service. Right in the middle of the screen, under the blue box, in small text :-
Click here to subscribe (free & no obligations)
This popped-up another small window which looked like the start of the registration process.

Maybe they only want users who pass the aptitude test. ( I only managed it on the second attempt. :T )
  • I've had no problems with the actual service but I am having a terrible time with SSE customer service. I'm not impressed with how my concerns are being dealt with and want to leave my contract with them to be honest. Basically I signed up to the basic package (and got my TopCashBack payment which is being used at M&S to pay for Christmas Dinner thanks!) but after receiving my first bill was concerned about call costs and so immediately rang to upgrade to the anytime inclusive package (as I have done with every single other provider in the past 10 years!) which it was explained to me meant restarting the 12 month contract length. Fine, I said, and as far as I was concerned I was on it from then on! However, last month I got a letter from their credit control saying they were 'concerned' about increased call usage. This rang immediate alarm bells and sure enough I went to my online account and saw that we had racked up over £100 in call charges (which should have amounted to less than a third of that had they actually put me on the package!!!)... Every 'advisor' I spoke to basically implied I was lying as they had no record of any calls to them in August from my landline number - that is because I called from WORK as I am hardly at home because I WORK! I eventually got so irrate at getting nowhere that I got put through to a very affable manager who sounded like she wanted to sort it but nonetheless get put on hold for ages and have still got NOWHERE with it!
I really want to take this to the ombudsman and get out at no penalty to me as it is entirely their error. The onus SHOULD NOT be on me as the customer!!! I dread to think how someone perhaps more elderly and less savvy would get on with this bunch of 'robots'.
    AVOID!!!

my advice is to install a call recorder on your mobile and get SSE to call YOU on or back on that and you keep a copy. Its amazing how quick they back track when you play it back to them!!!

I'm so glad im out. If the spent more time on staff training then on marketing they may have a chance to compete with the big boys but the dont have any infrastructure and seem to be run out of a caravan
  • Im changing back to Sky next week, who ever posted and said the good speeds would only last a few days you were right !
Sky offering £10 for 12 months fibre....and free original tv bundle for 1 year, bargain.
  • I have found ADSL speeds OK and service good. I called SSE Hydro today and was through to technical support in minutes and service excellent.

I have bought a TP Link Archer V900, wanted AC1900 with beamforming, and a device that would do ADSL or Fibre as I'm still hopeful of being able to get Fibre in the future.

I had written a 1 in the password instead of a lower case l so felt a bit of a div.

I was previously using the TG852n and a Linksys EA6700 which worked OK, but the TG852n could not go in brdige mode so I don't think it was most efficient.

Only thing I'm gutted about - I paid £126 for the TP Link, checked amazon and still that price before I opened box, it's down to £99.99 today and is on a deal this evening!

The vR900 is very easy to set up. SSE not listed in provider list, just select PPPoA, 0,38 in Other and away you go.

I just bought the VR900 and attempted to set it up tonight. I selected Other for provider and entered my sse username and password. There is no PPPoA option and nowhere to enter 0.38 either.

    It won't connect.

My one set up no problem - I just selected Other and followed the wizard,
Log in again, click on advanced, then on network and select Internet

Click the delete (rubbish bin tab) to delete this connection settings, then go through the setup options again selecting Other, and hopefully it gives you the option to select PPPoA, it may even put the 0,38 for you.

It seems to be working very well and I emailed amazon as price had dropped within a week of purchase and they refunded me the £26 price difference.
  • Just realised why I didn't have the PPPoA setting because i'm on fibre and you're on ADSL. Anyway I selected BT as ISP, entered my username and password and seems to be working fine. Result

Good news - wish I was on Fibre - one day hopefully - it is in the street but all slots taken!

Concerning the comment that it was not available in the Highlands.

That is odd, as Scottish Hydro it seems quite happy to offer the service further north in Orkney.
