How come you got your BB and phone on the same day? I have been given two different stories from CS about when my BB will start. -One saying on the same day as the phone, and the other saying that the BB wont be ordered until the phone service is up and running, and then it will take 10 working days. Either which way I still don't have any paperwork or a router.........

Mayb it depends on who your present suplier is.
When i registered for the change over the first and only letter with the contract i received said expected change over on or around 28/9.
i received the router about one week b4 the live date. They did say that
you should not connect the router untill you have been informed the bb was live. They also state that it could take upto 10 days after the phone being activated for the bb.I didnt receive any other correspondance from them.On 28 about 11am i noticed the backlight on my phone flash on so
i tried the 1571 that i had with tt and nothing so i realised the phone had now switched over so i phoned and sked about the bb and they said to try it the next day and that it could take upto 10 days.
However i decided to connect there router after the call and was surprised to see the bb was live.

I have openreach coming on tuesday to check for a fault but to me it seems like there is some major over aggressive traffic shaping going on as between midnight and midday it runs fast 65meg then from midday all afternoon to midnight i am lucky to get over 10 on a 75 fibre connection. I was told by SSE that they dont use traffic shaping but this was the same chap that was trying to tell me by changing my wifi channel number would fix the problem after i told him at least a dozen times I dont use wifi.

We will wait and see but i have a feeling i maybe fighting to get this contract terminated early without fees.
  • It's in the small print somewhere - they do use traffic shaping.
  • Well I got my replacement fibre router delivered today, the Technicolor TG589vac.

Still only wireless ac1300, so a lot behind the times but at least its 5ghz and wireless ac.

I'll update once I've had a while to test it and tell people what its like.

Ok so openreach was at the door 8.30am prompt and the chap tested the line and it passed all tests ok the line speed is set to 64meg and advised me any drop in speed is down to SSE throughput and traffic shaping.

I am not bothered about a slight drop but when i am getting such slow speeds is beyond small print to give you an idea how serve it is

  • Those results are absurd.

Can't help but think that something might be (has to be) wrongly configured at the SSE/Daisy end for that to happen.

I'm getting the same problem. on 'Ultrafast' Fibre, I was getting max speed before with BT, now 10 mbps if im lucky ande often down to 2mbps.

Tried a torrent and max speed was 10mbps
speedtest shows 30mbps (which isnt true as websites take an age to load.

I will never use SSE again for gas and elec after this debacle, talk about being conned.

SSE Talk and Broadband Customers - Important

I discovered that I had been overcharged on my very first Talk 14 with Broadband bill.
I contacted the Chief Executive and he and his staff admitted that their details were
unclear and that they were in error. As their bills are the ultimate examples of
complexity and obfuscation, other customers may be unaware of their situation.
Customers should have been sent a sheet of paper headed "Confirmation of Contract" when you
signed up. This is the "Essence of the Contract" and very clearly sets out the charges you have to pay. Anything else that is not included and you have not specifically accepted they cannot charge you for. An exception may be the two-part charging of calls to 084, 087, 09, and 118 numbers as this is by ruling of the Regulator, but these access charges still need to be reasonable.
Charges hidden among masses of "tiny grey print" (which SSE loves) will not hold up in Court and should not be accepted by the customer.
The overcharges I found were extra charges of 88p plus VAT for paper bills which I had not asked for (and which have been impossible to cancel so far), and a setup charge of 13.5p plus VAT per call on UK landline calls at non-inclusive times, in addition to the 8.1p per minute (inc VAT) contracted for.
8.1p per minute seems to be the most expensive landline calls in the UK, never mind the shocking setup charge which features, as far as I can see, in none of their advertising, publicity or price list for this scheme. The wholesale cost of UK landline calls, you may be interested to know, is around 1.5p per minute plus VAT, with no setup charge!
No wonder they do not want you to know about the setup charge, but unfortunately for them not only are they not allowed to charge it as it is not in the contract, but, like charging for unordered paper bills, it is an offence under what used to be called the Trade Descriptions Act which has been progressively tightened up under UK and EU consumer legislation since it was introduced in 1968.
They have offered me a credit on my bill (not materialised yet!) of £35 as a goodwill gesture - Good for them! - and I have no doubt they will do the same for you, so do get in touch with them, and let us all know how you get on.
Meanwhile, other parts of the Moneysavingexpert website will tell you how you can make
calls much more cheaply via landline or mobile.
    Best of luck, Ray Williamson.
