  • I have a recipe for turning the orange one into orange and grapefruit (value grapefruit segments) and the lemon into lemon and pineapple (tinned pineapple) Both are very nice. I can post the recipe on Mon if you want (about to head to the airport)

Yes please - that would be fabulous if you could. Thinking of making some for grandparents for Christmas.

    Thanks in advance.

You can definitely get it in Tescos and I am sure I have seen it in Sainsburys. My cousin only found out a year ago that my nana had been making 'homemade' marmalade with mamade last year! She's 26 and was horrified! It's absolutely lovely though

    Hi there,

If any of you OSers use this I'd be very grateful if you could tell me how much marmalade it yields per tin. Grateful if anyone who's got it in their cupboard could have a look for me. I'm trying to work out if it's cheaper than using fresh oranges.

    Thanks loads,

    Weezl x

    Hi,

It makes 6 x 1lb jars. I made some yesterday and it made a little bit extra.

I haven't priced up the seville oranges recently but think you should at least break even with price and it is so much less work and doesn't take as much fuel to cook. With the time saved you could do something else OS and be saving even more money.

    Hi weezl,

I've added your thread to an earlier one with lots of advice on using Ma Made for making marmalade.

I am another MaMade fan - and agree it yields about 6 jars. Seville oranges are never fresh on sale in France, and bought marmalade, if found, is frightfully expensive here as it is considered a luxury import product. So a tin of MaMade is always on the shopping list in case of a trip to the UK.
However, during the last year or so I have been unable to find the thick cut variety, which is really the one we prefer.
Anyone else had this problem? Is it still on sale somewhere? (We were looking in North Wales)

To make orange ma made (or any orange marmalade recipe) into an Oxford or Dundee type marmalade (ie darker than usual) replace half the sugar with soft brown or muscavado. It's delicious and much easier than the traditional long boil to make it more treacly,.

I didn't know you could still buy Ma Made,I haven't seen it for ages,my local Sainsbury's don't have it,but it is only a small store.

I used to use Ma Made regularly years ago,it made lovely marmalade if I remember rightly.I shall have to save up some empty jam jars before I can make any though.

Do you think I'd be able to make this with less sugar? OH is diabetic and the reduced sugar marmalades are quite expensive so I wondered if I'd be able to use Ma Made and just adjust the sugar quantities or would it not set properly?
