Mobiles.co.uk, can they be trusted?

  • @mobilejunkie Your company's "groundrules" require that I should submit a telco bill within 60 days of the cashback due date via your website, which I did, after 10 days of the due date to be precise. Also, I pay the telco by DD so have no unpaid balance with them.

SO, tell me, what makes you think so "clearly" that I "have not" followed your company's groundrules?

Lots of things. Firstly, I doubt you've read them:-

If you had, you would have immediately issued a LBA when the first cheque didn't arrive. They wouldn't have allowed themselves the massive amount of time to send the replacement cheque they usually stretch to, since that would mean they didn't pay in the proper timescale. A cheque in the wrong name would be treated in the same way.

Why on earth have you let this go on for for over a year? I'd had issued about 10 months ago - but they would almost certainly have paid me by then, since the LBA almost invariably does the trick. Trust me, I've had LOTS of experience with CPW and they don't get away with anything unless you allow them to. After all, would they let you get away with claiming a day late?

    After asking the questions

Well here is my personal experence.
Well what can I say after two months of research and asking on different forums and asking Samsung themselves about mobiles.co.uk everything has far exceeded my expectations.
I was in the doom and gloom camp about mobiles.co.uk after reading bad reports about mobile.co.uk and was waiting for CPW to drop their prices but Mobiles.co.uk have put up with my constant pestering for two months quizzing them about who supplies the Samsung phones, are they reboxed and are they really new.
I even went to the trouble of e mailing the CEO of mobiles.co.uk after CPW and EE claimed and stated to me that Mobiles.co.uk Samsung phones are all refurb and sold as new and are sourced outside the EU so they can sell them cheaper than the rest of the competition
But I can conform and Mobiles also confirm the phones are in that supplied by Samsung UK.
In all the whole experience of dealing with Mobiles.co.uk was very good and the phone an Samsung S7 came in the Samsung packaging and had the Samsung security seal intacked.
One very happy customer with a NEW shinny S7 :)

Why would CPW claim that? Do you mean an individual salesman said it rather than CPW themselves?

mainly because mobiles.co.uk is actually part of CPW, the stock sold by mobiles.co.uk is the same stock sold by CPW as it would come from the same warehouse...

If you've now signed up, have a look at the t&c's and see who've you signed up with...

    Here's a hint
Mobiles.co.uk - Goods and Service Terms and Conditions

    "Carphone Warehouse Group" means The Carphone Warehouse Limited, together with its subsidiary and holding companies and any subsidiaries of such holding companies whether direct or indirect from time to time, including Carphone Warehouse Group plc. and its affiliates and subsidiary companies from time to time;

I believe they are saying EE told them that - which is quite common since networks lie to try to frighten potential customers away from cheaper dealers. All CPW companies clearly state when phones offered are "refurbished"; otherwise they are brand new (even those described as "refurbished are often simply brand new phones returned by customers rather than actually being old ones which have actually been refurbished).

The problems with CPW are with cashback (though usually rare nowadays and easily avoided IF you follow the groundrules) or repairs (where phones come back worse than they started) rather than with the actual phones supplied.

The salesman is representing CPW so therefor is speaking for CPW

I alreadyknew mobiles.co.uk are a sister company of CPW
    thanks anyway

And you believe everything a salesman will say to get a sale? :rotfl:

By the way, an opinion of a single individual doesn't amount to speaking for the company. Give their head office a call and ask if Mr Liar is a designated spokesman for the company and see what they say...

  • We've used them few times over the years (not sure why) and every single time we had some issues. As some say when something is cheaper than everywhere else there must be a reason for that. In case of Mobiles.co.uk it's their awful customer service and their misleading adverts... The cashback they offer requires constant chasing and should you miss the deadline for sending back a copy of paid bill, you loose your cashback for that period of time. When you consider the time spent on chasing them up, etc it is hardly worth bother and this seems to be exactly what they want you to do, give up on the cashback...
On another occasion they advertised a 1 month rolling SIM-only contract with £10 automatic cashback which then turned out to be a one off. Also as the cashback was advertised to be 60 days delayed I didn't even realised that anything was wrong until I was 3 months into the contract and I received only 1 cheque! The funny thing is that they are still advertising it on their website and it still is as baffling as it was when I got tricked into it...
Finally, we went for a phone upgrade through Mobiles.co.uk and used Quidco to get some cashback. After few months of waiting for the payment Mobiles simply refused the cashback and never explained their reasons for that!
My advice: go to someone else and AVOID MOBILES.CO.UK LIKE THE PLAGUE!

It seems you're not very good at playing the game. Automatic cashback has always been a single payment. No need to chase - simply follow the groundrules and send a LBA as soon as they fail to meet the t&c. As for missing a SIXTY DAY deadline for submitting a claim is your own fault, not theirs. It usually takes minutes to make a claim and on those occasions I've had to make them pay up it usually takes a suitable and prompt LBA. I've had hundreds of cashback deals with them for myself and many others I watch over and we have had to force payment sometimes. However, I made a LOT of profit from them on all my contracts. They are, however, also NOT the cheapest nowadays.
  • Can anyone confirm if the phones mobiles.co.uk provide are brand new or are they refurbished items?

    Kind regards,
    Scott.
