  • Hi, I am looking for up to date (2023 if possible) travel insurance information for me, a very healthy 75 year old. I am going to USA and Canada for 6 weeks, mostly staying with new friends and leaving on 23rd Sept. I cannot find links/suggestions. Please help urgently. Thank you.

What can you not find links/suggestions for?

A Google search for long stay holidays should provide some links.

Co-op Bank do a very decent packaged current account with a £15 monthly fee - the good news is that it goes to age 80........the only such policy that does so.
You don't have to use it for general banking needs - we just pay the £15 by monthly standing order from our regular bank.
I can give you the direct 'phone number for the AXA insurance medical screening staff so you can touch base on any health issue questions BEFORE you consider applying - sounds like you have no concerns in that area.

Presumably there are extra premiums to pay the Co-op if you have pre-existing conditions.  Can you find out what these would be before applying for the account?

Yes to the second part of the question - and maybe to the first one.
AXA were quite happy to allow our pre-existing conditions to be included at no extra cost - including my blood pressue issue diagnosed at the start of the year, as long as I stick with the prescribed medication.
I took my eye off the ball there - apologies - do you want the AXA 'phone number ?

My mum, 76 is heading to the Falkland Islands but has been advised that she needs medical emergency cover in excess of £1m (not sure if that's an FI requirement?).

I'm trying to sort travel insurance for her, but as she's not a UK resident (she retired to Malta several years ago), I'm falling at the first hurdle where you need to declare that you're a UK resident and are registered with a GP.  Which she isn't for either.

    Can anyone help? 😢

It is normal to get travel insurance from the country where you reside.  Have you looked at Maltese insurance companies?
  • I have been looking for travel insurance for a skiing trip and have just turned 65.  This increased the quotes a lot and reduced the number of companies quoting.  As I used a specialist ski insurance company last year I checked their website and they offer insurance up to 80… I’m really hoping I’ll need a quote in 15 years time!

The company are called SkiCover, and the strange thing was that it was cheaper to get an annual policy than a single trip.  You get a maximum of 45 days cover per ski trip, but when I asked, there’d be no problem going more than once, so if you get your dates right you can have two trips on the one policy e.g. March 2024 and January 2025.  The only downside is that the year starts when you pay, so you won’t get cancellation cover, etc., but this is not an issue for us.

The 'man in the pub' is off skiing tomorrow (2nd time this winter) - he will be 81 next month.
When he's back I'll endeavour to ask who his insurer is. IIRC, he's a member of the Ski Club of Great Britain

He's back and confirmed Ski Club of GB, but that only runs to "up to and including 80 years old" so he will be looking elsewhere
