*EDIT* I am aware of the fact that I have spelt scammed wrong

Hi guys, new to the forum. I'm only 20 years old and don't really know much about all this kinda stuff so please go easy.
Anyway, today I was stopped in my local shopping centre by a man who asked me if a knew about the new Mastercard Aqua card, I said no and the guy went into the details of the card's benefits and informed me that all he needed was my name and address to send out the card, he told me that if I didn't want the card when it arrived then that was fine I could just stick in the bin.
Normally I would just walk away but for some reason I stayed and listened and agreed to give him my details, he told me that there would be no phone calls, no texts or emails, the card would be sent out and that was the end of it.
I gave him my name, address, mobile and email, I'm currently unemployed as well. He asked to see my bank card for ID (Visa Debit) which he looked at telling me never to give out the account number etc and that they only needed the sort code (I think). He was standing right next to me the whole time and he didn't write any of my details down, I am 99.99% sure he didn't write the sort code down.
Sorry if this doesn't make much sense I'm just really worried, I've learned my lesson and won't stop for anyone again but I just need reassurance, I told my parents that I will keep an eye on my bank account over the next few weeks and to be fair the guy seemed genuine (naive??).
Can someone help me out please?

I guess there is a chance he has taken down the details of your debit card (e.g. he may have been filming and so now could all the details from your card).
For peace of mind you may want to contact your bank and say that you think you card details may have been compromised and ask them to cancel it and send you a new one out.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Hey Tixy thanks for the reply

How easy is it do that? Bearing in mind that my knowledge on such things is zero. And surely if he did take money out it would appear on my bank account?0 -
Phone your bank and speak to them. They will guide you through the process. Did he look on the back of the card? Ring the bank NOW.Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'

Did you sign anything, was he standing at a stand or desk?
Sounds dodgy i would have your card cancelled at once.0 -
Was he wearing glasses ?I do Contracts, all day every day.0

As others have said, phone your bank NOW and ask them to cancel the card. It'll be cancelled instantly, you'll just be without a card for a few days until the replacement arrives in the post. Whilst you're on, you can ask the bank what the last transaction on your account was. If it's a genuine one then you're fine, panic over. If it's a fraudulent one then tell them and they can investigate.0

Yes I signed something, he was at a desk but came a good eight feet away from the desk to talk to me, no he wasn't wearing glasses and yes he looked on the back of the card.0

As you handed the card over, the bank wont pay back anything they steal.I do Contracts, all day every day.0

Thanks for the replies guys, can I just ask, is there anyway that this guy may have been genuine and that there was nothing shady going on.
Excuse the naivety but I really am clueless about this kind of stuff.0 -

Nope, absolute rubbish.
In order to get any credit card, you need to undergo a credit check and also enter details about your employment, time at address etc.
And you don't just throw the card away if you decide you don't want it, if you had taken out a credit card you would need to call the provider and ask them to cancel the card and put this in writing to you and then wait until your credit reference files had been updated to reflect this information.
Sounds like what he may have done is enter your details on their database to spam you via post with details of their card with all your data (eg name, DOB, address etc) already pre-populated so that it would only require you to sign and date it. But you would still have to undergo a credit check.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards.
