Is it worth going back to the shopping centre to see if he is still there as a legitimate regular?

If not, then you can ask for details of any CCTV and potentially report it to the police if there is fraud.

Best to get CCTV footage sooner rather than later in case it's wiped.

Thanks for the replies guys, can I just ask, is there anyway that this guy may have been genuine and that there was nothing shady going on.

Excuse the naivety but I really am clueless about this kind of stuff.

Sounds to me like a genuine if over pushy salesman. But that's only a 'probably'.

They have a stand in our local shopping arcade from time to time. It's there permanently though who occupies it varies. I think I've seen a scented candle merchant there.

I haven't cancelled my debit card, I've spoke to my parents who have told me that it should be alright because the guy didn't write down my details.

i find this amazing:o.. call your bank, cancel your card, ask about the last transactions, and if they are not yours, inform them.

and as m4rc says, call Aqua too.

it may be fine, but that's not the point. you have enough doubt to come on here to ask about it, so it would be wise to take preventative action without delay.:)

I am going to say it as well, please please cancel your card. If it was a scam its not your fault :) The bank will thank you for ringing.

Oh and one other thing, your not clueless now about this sort of thing. ;):)

Not that I suspect you were in the first place otherwise you would never have asked.
  • I tried phoning Aqua, it was an automated service and it told me to key in my sixteen digit Aqua card number, something which I don't have and unfortunately there are no other options, if you don't have that card number then you cant proceed any further which means I cant speak to anyone at Aqua regarding my details.

If you don't press any buttons, but remain on the line silently, they will eventually connect you with a call handler.
(there may be a couple of repeat requests first)

This approach works with nearly all automated call handling services.

I honestly don't get why you don't just cancel your debit card? He has had sight of everything needed to spend your money. Your card has been compromised and you don't know for sure who by.

If you cancel the card then you don't need to worry.
  • OK I got through, I told the girl what happened and I asked if she could check my details, I gave her my post code and she said that because the 'application' only happened yesterday they won't have my details just yet.

I told her the guy was at a pop up stand and she said that they do have them and the guy was probably legit. She said I should phone in a week's time to see if my 'application' has come through.

Should I phone Bank of Scotland and just cancel the card or do I wait and see if the guy was legit?

Cancel the card. Do you want to take the risk of someone stealing all your money?

Is that a guy who sells nice smelling candles, or a guy who smells nice and is selling ordinary candles?
Optimists see a glass half full :)
Pessimists see a glass half empty :(
Engineers just see a glass twice the size it needed to be :D
