could be genuine- when i first read this i thought a CC is not coming in the post, just the application form for one for you to fill out.

I saw a TV program a few years back ref fraud from cards, where someone holds your card so that an accomplice can see it and type all the numbers in to a phone etc,

ring your bank to be safe and explain to them, better safe than sorry

Yes I signed something, he was at a desk but came a good eight feet away from the desk to talk to me, no he wasn't wearing glasses and yes he looked on the back of the card.
What was it that you signed? An application form? A direct debit mandate?

I haven't cancelled my debit card, I've spoke to my parents who have told me that it should be alright because the guy didn't write down my details.

Oooohhh,Computer1.I hope everything goes ok then. For the sake of being without a card a few days,I would have cancelled the card.If someone was secretly filming etc you may not know.
Just keep an eye on your account,I guess.
    Good luck x

There's no way he's 100% genuine, if he was you would have a copy of whatever it is you signed. So either
    A) He's a complete fraud and used a camera to record your car details and will defraud you, by the time you find out it will be too late and the bank won't refund you the money if you've already told them it was your fault
    B) He's a salesman working on comission and tricked you into signing up for something you probably don't qualify for anyway. He may had forged details on your application to make it likely to succeed. He may have got you to sign papers that commit you to paying things. He certainly lied to you. He will be paid on comission so that's all he cares about. If HE entered your details incorrectly your application for a CC could be rejected on the basis of FRAUD and this could put a PERMANENT marker on your credit file. So best to CANCEL the application as soon as you find out who the application was with.

Really simple why not call Aqua on 0845 601 0436 and see what they say. They can tell you if this sounds normal, they would have your details if it's an application. Your card details could have been taken, as long as they got the security code off the back too they have all they need to spend on it - people can cut keys from what many would consider an impossible single in a photograph so he'll yes they can take a pic of your card from somewhere and use it for fraud. Unless your parents know something everyone else does why would you risk not cancelling your card or at least reporting it to the bank for the sake of a few days while a new one comes? The consequences could be a lot more significant, my parents wouldn't think it was possible to take a picture of a card from a distance and commit fraud either but it doesn't make them right.

I do think giving Aqua a call would make sense though, they may say 'oh yes we have your application and your card is on its way'!

Did he read any of the numbers out loud off your card? He may have been secretly recording what he was saying.

I know the idea of cameras in glasses and recording what he was saying may sound fanciful and excessively sinister, but as others have said, his behaviour is definitely suspicious: the sort code is of no value on its own; you can't get a CC without a credit check; you cannot just throw one away if you don't want it. These all ring alarm bells.

You said it was in a shopping centre. Perhaps you could ask the shopping centre management if they were there with their permission, and exactly who they were.

Well thats all right then, presumably your parents will cover any losses you incur. A lesson well learnt for the future. This is speaking as someone watching an elderly person being ripped off by her family where they have the card number, security code and a few other details. She unwillingly paid for all their lovely expensive Christmas presents on paypal.
