The question of ill health is one I generally consider with caution.

People say they would receive sick pay and when you look at it you find it was far less than they thought - sometimes only Statutory Sick Pay.

Then there is the issue of redundancy. People regularly say they have contractual redundancy pay and when you look, they do not. Only Police Officers are (currently) immune from the risk of redundancy.

And if your job is in the private sector and your employer goes bust any promises about what they would do would go out of the window anyway.

So I am not saying that you are wrong - simply that if I were looking I would want to see evidence to support what you assert.

On the other hand, Clydesdale may be under pressure to deal with things quickly and not look at it with in the level of detail that I would.

    This is a misguided post.

    Why is it misguided?

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Thanks for your time everyone, your comments have been helpful. I worked for the Civil Service and would have been received full pay for 6 months then half pay for a further 6 months. I'll wait and see what happens, hopefully Clydesdale bank will get in touch then I'll take it from there. Thanks again.

Typically, that would result in a rejection for mortgage PPI but an uphold for most others. This is because of the longer term commitment for a mortgage and the potential consequence of not paying is more serious.

All my claims have been upheld because of my employment benefits. 6 months of full pay and six months of half pay in the case of sickness, plus an option to vire ones pension into the half pay period. Death in service would result in a lump sum of 3x annual salary (tax free) and full pension benefits paid to my beneficiaries. Which would be 3x the annual pension amount and then the full pension in perpertuity until the beneficiary passes away.

Thats all the info I provided and was able prove I was entilitled too. All PPI cases upheld on that basis.

    Did say "typically" not "always"

Relying on death in service to pay off your mortgage is a bit of a push though :p

On the whole, FOS will not accept this as a reason for mortgage PPI to be upheld because it is a long term commitment.

This is of no relevance to PPI which does not pay death benefits.
