Parking Fines.

Hi all,
I have recently been given a parking fine through the post after staying too long in an Asda carpark.
It is a camera operated carpark not a coin pay and display that has just recently been lowered from 3 hours stay to 2.5 hours, the fine is for £40.00 rising to £70.00 if not paid in full within 14 days.
Where do i stand on paying parking fines not issued by the council or the police, I've read that you do not have to pay private parking firms but I'm not totally sure legally?
Thanks guys.

Hi all,

It's not a fine, private companies can not issue fines. It's an invoice.
Read here to find out how to avoid having to pay it - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4816822
And also make sure you complain to the manager of the Asda store about the fact you're facing this harassment as a reward for your loyal custom and tell him how in future you're going to do all your shopping in Tesco and that you'll also tell all your family and friends to do the same
. The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us

Why would anyone spend more than 2.5 hours parked in an Asda car park? Even if you WERE shopping there, why would it take more than 2.5 hours?
Grocery shopping is my vision of hell - I'm in and out of the supermarket in no more than an hour. I can understand others may take longer to do their shopping but 2.5 hours.............seriously?0 -

My local Asda in Llandudno (which I no longer visit as they also have these parasites scamming their customers) has a very badly laid out car park that at peak times can take upwards of half an hour to get out of. If you've done a full shop, maybe had lunch in the instore cafe and then spent half an hour trying to exit the car park you could very easily exceed 2.5 hours.
It seems a bit bizarre to me that someone would open a large supermarket, stock a very wide range of goods and then not allow customers time to properly browse. Likewise why put in a cafe if you're not going to allow your customers time to sit down and eat a meal? It's no wonder supermarkets are seeing their profits fall when they are actively discouraging customers from visiting. Thankfully my local Morrisons has a scammer-free car park otherwise I'd have nowhere to shop. The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water

The alternative is to build a car park and see it full of other peoples customers. The main Asda in Llandudno, for example, is very convenient for the town centre and the railway station. If I was commuting and presented with the opportunity of free parking, I'd be a fool to turn it down.0 -

Well that may have been a planning condition imposed by the council when the store was built to encourage trade and improve parking facilities in that part of the town.0 -
So were you parked illegally or weren't you?
I'm guessing you overstayed the 2.5 hour limit, thinking it was a 3 hour limit. So the fine would be correct, though annoying!0 -

Dear Friends
Please help about this parking ticket charge:
On 23 Oct 2014, i have issued a parking fine, the time when i went to pay for parkig ticket the machine was out of service. I took pictures of the machine.
And when i came back after 30mns, saw a parking fine on my wind screen. I have written to newham council requesting to cancel the parking fee, but they have refused.
Now they have sent me Notice to Owner. Please friends help me how to come out of this situation. As its not my fault if the ticket machine is out of order.
I am unable to tick which column on the notice to owner as there no option for machine out of service. Please help
Thank you in advance.
