Its a case of living as frugally as we are comfortable with, we know we deff want to retire early and reckon we need £200,000 in my pension, I have a long way to go before I reach that so I have to save as much as we can afford to without being unhappy ... Remember although I now finally have a small NHS pension growing it will be small and I won't get it till state retirement age , I intend on retiring at 60 so I NEED to save
I also don't have an ISA at this time so I'm not saving into anything like that0 -
Remember that it has been proposed that private pensions are linked to increases in life expectancy. You will probably need an ISA as well to help bridge any gap that arises from extensions to when you can draw monies?0
-
Yep that's the plan as well Ed... Once were MF we plan on paying more into the pension and start an ISA ... We also have an endowment due to mature some of which will go to the pension as well ... The rough plan is £200k pension £100k ISA0

In a desperate attempt to get on top of the finances today I started back with the card topping up. a wee saving of £3.75 so in this case its not so much about saving money but more about getting back into the habit of thinking of money saving.
I think Mr El is starting to get into good weather mode, today he declares that when we retire and start to loose our health and marbles he wants us to sell up and move to somewhere warm were we can sit in our wee villa in the peace and quiet and just wake up spend the morning brewing coffee and making breakfast then sit on the verandah and just read our papers and enjoy the quiet solitude of the local mountains with the occasional goat bell chiming away in the background, he described it so well I wanted to sell up there and then and just go, it sounded heaven, I didnt fancy the losing of the marbles and the deterioration of health though
Well today is going to be a nice slow day pottering about I think, have worked a 40 hour week ( unpaid) on placement and have another 13 hour shift ( paid ... yay) tomorrow
Have a good one people0 -
I am trying to think where you could sit on a verandah watching mountains, but still get the papers?0

Google Orgiva in Spain. Surrounded by olive groves, yoga retreat, Buddhist monastery and I think a kiteflying place on your doorstep, bus to Granada. You can watch the Sierra Nevada all day - you have to look *up* to them, mind2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Where I am you can live in the mountains and drive down to the garage to get the paper flown in from Madrid that morning (not just to the garage obviously, other outlets are available
). Not so sure there are many herds of goats in the mountains - at least not to guarantee bells - but where I am I see them most days and they make a surprisingly loud 'munchy munchy' noise as they chomp on the plants. There are goats that look like goats, goats that look like sheep and sheep that think they're goats but they're not, as they find out when they try to climb trees
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

I have a lot to learn about goats.0

What a day ... today has been this kinda day
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mVvMopn2os
you know those days that just make you feel so glad to be alive ? yep one of those, spent a few hours out in the garden pottering about with Mr El, he found some wood out the back ( I reckon he must have wood sniffing sensors in his nose) so he was as happy as a goat in a tree
I was making beds in the poly tunnel and sifting through the compost, got a barrow load all sieved and ready to go into one of the new beds,
having read Ed's Kc's and GG's posts I am sooooo tempted to just go for it, hey it doesnt have to be that days paper, the paper could be a week old I wouldnt know as we dont intend on having a TV or anything, so it will be news to me whenever I read it
right I'm off back out to try and catch the last rays of the sun in the garden whilst trying to maybe plant somethingbefore getting ready for my 12.5 hour shift
and when I come back in I think I will go and search for that place Kc talks about0 -
Oh and in exceptionally great news ... I think we are on top of the JK:j:j:j:j:beer::beer::beer::beer::T:T:T:T:T:T we have only found two roots so far with some small offshoots, they are however all damaged and struggling to survive so we just sprayed and soaked, hopefully that will kill them off0
