according to the solar panel saleman ( take it with a pinch of salt) apparently even with cloud coverage we still get the rays that would work ... now maybe thats true and maybe its not ... the price is £25.50 so not too bad to try it out ... we have the fire to heat the water so that would do in the case of a power cut ... but it wouldnt do whilst camping or travelling

    Hows you doing honey ?

Definitely! Sorry to tempt you, El :) My haybox (I mentioned it on my thread just now) has a wooden frame, the sides are unused vinyl flooring, nailed to the wood, sealed with tape, insulated with a variety of things - old sound insulation I had hanging around, celotex I skipdived, polystyrene packaging might be used, cushion stuffing that's been through the washing machine, you name it, even shredded newspaper for right next to the pot, so it can be composted when/if it gets dirty. The whole thing is lined with the behind-the-radiator stuff. As well as acting as a haybox, it can be a dehydrator (I've got flyscreen ready to put in the vents I've positionsed) and I've collected enough tin cans to act as a solar heat collector. That could be used to aid its situation as a solar oven too.

I'm not very physically strong, but I just love faffing about with this stuff :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: but I should tell you the haybox is barely half built as yet. Oven, haybox and dehydrator all in one :)

I'm absolutely sure it won't heat water to brew tea in 30 minutes, not at this time of year. It was steaming after two hours over the weekend, but it still had to be finished off in the electric kettle. I *do* think its useful - if you've got a power cut, alternative fuels are expensive, unless you forage for wood. It won't pay back quickly, tho.

No, I don't - thats when I started making my haybox, I figured I wanted something more substantial to be honest, and I wanted it for free too - mine's totally recycled :D
