Thats good, El - conscious spending is what its about, not just doing it for the sake of it. DVDs come out really soon these days, too!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

I got concerned re alcohol intake so did a separate balance for that, the outcome was eye watering.. and it wasn't alcohol for making money, it was for drinking.
Take aways sit in with eating out, thats eye watering every single month, but every time I broach the subject Mr El says yep none this month and then through the month says " ach but ..... " and i'm sure you can guess how the rest goes... " we work hard, weve done well, we dont get many treats, we will find the money" the list goes on and on and on
its like having a conversation about retirement, " yes i want to retire early and move away" quickly followed by " I dont think we can plan anything or even work out what we will need as we dont know yet what the future will bring and we need to live in the present"
See if i'm still working when i'm 65 I will go nuts lolMFW 2025 No. 7 £1530/£2700

This sounds so much like Mr AJM. He loves the idea of being semi-retired/retired early, being MF and maybe living abroad but doesn't really want to do anything towards it. I am a big planner and he is as far removed from that as possible. Sometimes if I show him figures it gets him interested but then he forgets :rotfl: I am concentrating on my own financial freedom and hoping he will eventually play catch up...the problem is he is older than me so doesn't have long to plan!
We could be the same person lol ...Mr El is exactly the same.. interested for a short while then forgets again0 -

It's interesting to read about people's attitudes to alcohol.
In the 80's and early 90's we were friendly with a couple, and the husband was a big drinker ( in retrospect, I think he was an alcoholic) and we'd go round their house quite a lot, and because there was a lot of drinking going on, we'd drink too. I used to get fed up wasting the next day because I felt ill and hungover. In the end we kind of backed off front the friendship, as it wasn't what we wanted to do. The husband sadly died early at 52, with a alcohol related illness.
Now that I've got Meniere's, they say that I should avoid alcohol as much as possible.
We've bought a box of wine for Christmas week, and I've had a couple of glasses this evening, but I water it down for me, so I don't consume so much alcohol.
But the rest of the year, we barely drink at all now.
El, I don't know if you've heard of Meerkat movies? That's two for one on Tuesday and Wednesday. You have to buy a compare the market policy to qualify, but it works if you get the cheapest one day travel insurance policy, then you are enrolled for a whole yearEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Yes it is very interesting to read different peoples opinions, a lot of people would never think my husband has an issue for example, in fact a lot of people drink a LOT more than my husband and dont seem to have an issue with alchol, but the fact remains it is an issue for him. I dont do hangovers myself either so tend not to drink too much either, I think that was for sometime part of Mr El's issue, he didnt suffer hangovers at all, thankfully he does now so it curbs his drinking.
Tbh with the film we rarely go to the pictures, last time we went there was Orange Wednesday's, I didnt even know they had stopped, If we were to go often I would deff use the meerkats to get a discount but dont think I can justify it for the once a year treat we have, maybe that is the reason the cinema is so expensive now, so many people using the BOGOF offers that the cinemas have put the price up to try and compensate it ?
Have tried to get my study head on, but it just isnt working today, I have an exam next moth and only really have tomorrow to study for it as we are going to London next week... Will need to get my backside moving though sooner rather than later.0 -
Been reading Goldie's and Ed's diary, I'm sensing a theme going on
This is leading me to wonder what my plans are for 2016.
I don't think I will have as many plans tbh as I have so much going on as it is ( I'm positive Goldie and Ed are similar)
But I am liking the idea of something along the lines of my garden and excercise
Will give it some more thought me thinks0 -
