Aye I have similar issues myself Ed
Its just the whole I plan for the bills and food and diesel etc, but somehow something else creeps in, like a cooker breaking or a wee couple of days taking an aunty to London for a break ... and I have no doubt take away's, even though we agree not to have any0 -
I'm even worse re. takeaways. They are recorded with spends (along with 'restarurants' and 'alcohol'), but there isn't actually a line for them in the budget. I am the UK government0

I got concerned re alcohol intake so did a separate balance for that, the outcome was eye watering.. and it wasn't alcohol for making money, it was for drinking.
Take aways sit in with eating out, thats eye watering every single month, but every time I broach the subject Mr El says yep none this month and then through the month says " ach but ..... " and i'm sure you can guess how the rest goes... " we work hard, weve done well, we dont get many treats, we will find the money" the list goes on and on and on
its like having a conversation about retirement, " yes i want to retire early and move away" quickly followed by " I dont think we can plan anything or even work out what we will need as we dont know yet what the future will bring and we need to live in the present"
See if i'm still working when i'm 65 I will go nuts lol0 -
That sounds like a good idea KC,
I filled in a R85 form the other day so that I don't pay tax on savings ... I was both excited and worried at the same time lolI got concerned re alcohol intake so did a separate balance for that, the outcome was eye watering.. and it wasn't alcohol for making money, it was for drinking.

Takeaways - stopping drinking, and meeting a healer, turned me emphatically towards alternative lifestyles, and I went vegetarian and conscious of the additives in our food, and takeaways didn't sit well with all that. Even fresh chilled food tastes disgusting to me after a few days, I can taste the manufacturedness of it.
All of that is just luck, afer the decision and effort to stop drinking (and it *was* an effort, absolutely, I was used to passing out, but I was frightened by the shakes).
El - you need to start a slush fund for retirement that Mr El doesn't know about2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

I have upped my pension payments to £580 a month, have decided to do it this way as there is no way I can get my hands on it till I am ready to retire, I find I am easily talked into taking savings out
I tend not to drink too much myself tbh, maybe 1-2 glasses at a time and thats me, Mr El though is addicted to alcohol that was the reason we split up previously , he gets on top of it for so long then slides back down again, he has much more control on his intake than he used to, but still too much for my liking.
I agree re food, I dont like additives myself either but again Mr El likes his take aways, me personally I love the Paleo style of eating, I feel healthier when I eat that way, I have energy and my head fog is clearer, however I am addicted to sugar and that just knocks me for 6 every now and then0 -
I remember that, sorry
The sugar thing - that used to get me too. I realised I was buying chocolate bars and cakes in an addictive pattern, literally - in several shops so no one shop assistant would know! Be kind to yourself about that, and keep going - I mean, keep trying!
£580 is great savings! You can make one-off payments into a pension too, remember - but £580 is great2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
£23.88 to go an see star wars in the cinema, thats me getting a student discount.
Mr El likes it, but he isnt a huge huge fan, so isnt too bothered if he misses it... I dont mind going to see it i've seen the rest but not too bothered if I miss it myself...
Hmmm is it worth it ?0 -
gonna check out an orange Wednesday instead
edited to add .... oh no orange Wednesday has came to an end ... !!!!!!0 -
We spent nearly £40 seeing it in the iMax at the Science Centre (tickets/booking fee/parking/snacks). Enjoyable enough film, not worth it for me. Luckily it was totally worth it for Mrs E, who is a massive fan of the franchise0
