call it an educated guess, I've never seen a roof structure (edwardian or otherwise) that has joist spacing more than the 900mm(ish) you require to fit a stair or that hasn't required other openings to be altered to form a compliant stair opening.
Creating a new room on a new storey has implications further than the structural side too, however the structural side requires regs.

you have said numerous times that people don't understand what's guidance and what's mandatory - it seems you are the most confused here.

the quoted post is also quite different to your previous rants in this thread - but yet again you have failed to provide any evidence of why these works would be deemed as exempt, if you have a look at 'building work' as defined in the regs you will find a lot of the components of a loft conversion require formal approval.

Currently in my office there are 5 architects, I have asked them - you are wrong ;)
Different because you simple because some seam to fail to grasp the obvious...
So you’ve never seen a loft hatch big enough to accommodate stairs without alteration interesting but not relevant,,, 5 architects they’ll be able to give the exact regulation that states stairs installed to give access to an attic to be used as an attic require BC I’ll look forward to reading that :rotfl:

I've already provided the guidance - access via a fixed stair to a storage room is regarded differently to access to storage via ladders etc.
Requiring alterations to an existing roof to accommodate stairs is relevant. Again I look forward to the production of any guidance at all which states this would be exmpt from regs, seriously unless you can there is no point in posting another ill informed rant making you appear more and more stupid as the posts come. Relevant legislation has been posted in this thread to disprove the rubbish you are spouting but you persevere at the expense of your credibility.
All you have to do is post one piece if guidance relating to the installation of a new fixed stair in an existing dwelling stating that it is exempt from regs - surely someone with your vast understanding of the regulations could do that immediately rather than refusing because "you're not a pa"!! Worst excuse for stupidity I've heard - is that what you'd tell a customer when they are asking for their paperwork?!

When you are dead, you do not know you are dead. It's only painful and difficult for others. The same applies when you are stupid.

There is no point arguing. The stupid is indeed strong in brighton.

you want me to get them to more post links to the same thing I already have, how about you just read it!?
Or even better provide us all a link to confirm your terrible interpretation and misunderstanding of the role of local authorities!
:money:

My position on this is clear and is backed up by the links I have provided combined with a few years of designing buildings/alterations which meet the regulations applicable in different uk regions (and a few abroad) - In that time I have experienced a few contractors who don't know the currently regulations, but they usually are aware of that and are happy to discuss interpretations of the regs, I have also experience of dealing with independent approved inspectors - I have yet to meet a single one who's interpretation is that a new fixed stair is exempt from building regs (in fact it makes some alterations very difficult to design out the issues)
Won't be replying again as I've said everything I can, provided documentary evidence to counter your claims and yet you continue to avoid providing any back up. Please, if anyone ever asks you for advice on the application of building regs or planning in the future, just refer them to the planning portal website or advise that they speak to the local authority directly - under no circumstances present your own interpretation as correct to them, it will avoid disappointment

You have shown no evidence to the contrary Yet you keep spouting on about works that need PP BC not works that don’t :rotfl:
