The only problem with an open mid is that all kinds of rubbish falls into it - eg spiritualism.

I went to see a medium, recommended by my friends:

    A very large pinch.

    I agree with the above.

Some workmates persuaded me to go with them to see someone - "she was marvellous" according to them.

My life is quite atypical and all the things she told me about myself were incorrect - because I didn't fit in to the norm.

    A waste of money.
She had ascertained that I had just been married for the second time and I was clearly in my mid thirties (this was almost 30 years ago).
So - most people that age have children.
She started talking about my (non-existent) children.
I told her she was wrong, "Ah" she said "I meant your new husband's children".
    Wrong again.
She then told me I would become pregnant in the near future.
    Wrong again (physical impossibility).
She told me I'd been pregnant in the past.
We were approaching the 'full house' by this time. Wrong again.
She then started telling me that I'd been pregnant in the past but didn't know it.
At this point, I gave her the 'face palm', stood up, told her she was a fake and walked out.

I actually don't believe all mediums are charlatans. I had an excellent reading once and she told me something regarding a family member of mine that there was absolutely no way she could have known beforehand. However, I don't live my life by it and Ive never paid to see someone again, the reading didn't upset me, I was just a bit stunned at how she knew what she knew (she wasn't local to where I live and what she did tell me couldn't have been found out by her either).

A few years back I went to see Colin Fry and Tony Stockwell and Tony Stockwell, well the readings he did for people, unless every single person he had a message for was planted in the audience, he's gifted.

The problem is, too many people claim to be something they arent and too many people get readings done when they are extremely vulnerable and that's why I would always say, if you are going to pay to see a medium or a clairvoyant, take it with a huge pinch of salt.

I would believe if that happened to me.
    But it didn't.

It's just that some people are better than others. They are 'given' signs/impressions - it's up to them to interpret them.

I had one who thought I'd come into a lot of money related to property development - no. But I was made redundant, and the ground around my former work had houses built on it!

Ive seen lots of mediums and they are all rubbish, thinking about it if there was an afterlife, the person concerned would get though to you themselves. Not expect you to pay to do it.
When my dad was dying he always said if there was a way to prove an afterlife he would let me know. I'm still waiting 4 years on.

All mediums, clairvoyants spiritualists etc are frauds. As has been stated previously, not one has ever proved themselves genuine, which is unsurprising as you simply cannot speak to the dead because they are dead. I have no doubt that, if any were genuine, someone would have pocketed that million by now.

Whether it is done for money or just to pretend you are something special, it is all a clever trick. It may be entertaining to some, but they do attract the fragile, vulnerable and bereaved. For some reason women seem more gullible than men to this nonsense.

Is Derren Brown a spiritualist? ;)

He absolutely isn't. He makes it quite clear that he has no "powers" to speak to the dead and that all those who claim they can are charlatans. He actually exposed some of them as frauds in a TV series, including a quite famous one named Joe Power. He has stated many times on TV that he does it using the same methods as the con artists.

That's up to the individual to decipher.

Best advice to give you is to get someone recommended, they should be a member of the Spritualists Union. Granted, there are a lot of fakes out there. Try attending a Spiritualist Church as they will do a demostration of mediumship.

Also don't give out any info, just say yes or no. They should know it all.

    Good Luck x

This one statement ^^^ speaks volumes.

If your recently passed loved one wants to speak to you, they will do so without talking through some random nobody who claims to have 'the gift.'

That said, I do believe that some people do have differing degrees of psychic ability. I do not believe however, that people who charge money to speak to the dead have any!

I hope you find peace Bluelass.
