Most people who go and see a Meduim do so because they desperately want an answer to a question they can't get closure with. Most good Mediums are just excellent psychologists, understand the above, and play on it. They play with likelihood and illusions, a bit like magicians that make you see things that are not what they are.

Of course, sometimes that's all what someone needs, hearing what they are desperate to hear so seeing a Medium can be as good as seeing a counsellor.

It's not something that I would do - I believe that mediums are just con artists. They know that you are desperate and give you the answers you want to hear. You can't return to them and say that they were wrong, so you want your money back, because they will either have disappeared, or point out that it isn't an exact science and there are times when it doesn't work.

I'm sorry of that isn't what you want to hear, but I truly think that you are better off saving your money. You obviously have something to sort out. I would suggest that you speak to your doctor and ask them for a recommended counsellor. You might still have to pay, but you will be receiving help from a trained professional, not someone who plays with your emotions.

I wish you all the best.

Save your money. Don't bother. For the reasons stated previously.

    A very large pinch.

    I agree with the above.

Some workmates persuaded me to go with them to see someone - "she was marvellous" according to them.

My life is quite atypical and all the things she told me about myself were incorrect - because I didn't fit in to the norm.

    A waste of money.

If you are feeling fragile I'd advise against it.

Broadly speaking, people tend to visit mediums/spiritualists/psychics only when they have lost someone dear to them (either through death or divorce/separation) or if they have problems in their life; work, partners/children or lack of, and money.

Many so-called psychics are indeed "sensitive professionals" and are very skilled at drawing out details from their [STRIKE]victims'[/STRIKE] clients manner, demeanour and from the few questions that they ask. If you think about it, many of us are quite good at this, I used to work with a woman who was very good at getting everyone to tell her about their love life, their problems and all of their general gossip. How many times on here do we read threads and manage, often quite successfully, to "read between the lines"?

I know several people who have visited mediums after the death of an elderly relative and it's striking how similar the accounts are afterwards. I've heard three separate accounts of how a medium has spoken of a much-loved mother/grandmother, and mentioned how she "loved her cup of tea" and "her poor feet, she loved wearing the trainers that you got her"...and so on.

OP, if you're feeling as though you would benefit from a sympathetic ear, you could try the Samaritans, or choose from any number of free helplines, all of which have trained counsellors who may be able to help you.

If, on the other hand, you're just curious about the "afterlife", you could maybe check out the work of James Randi or Derren Brown. There's also a quite revealing article here

I have never paid or visited a medium and honestly I never would. I once went to one of those evenings where a medium gave messages to the crowd. It was all sooo general it could easily have been anyone. That is kinda the point I think. They pick up on things and just give general responses that could fit a number of scenarios.

HOWEVER, I have a colleague who is a medium. She never takes money and will only offer what she sees when asked. She has been VERY accurate despite the fact I had only just started there when I got my first information from her. She has been accurate for others also. She told me what type of job my husband would get when he had applied for literally hundreds of different jobs over a 6 mth unemployment period. I believe her.

I would never pay for it.
